First Grass Strip Landing

Post by CanterburyTail »

So made my first grass strip landing today. Was having some issues with picturing my precautionary and we were near Greenbank, so we starting using it. Now that's fun landing. Surprisingly forgiving, but I'm not used to such short strips. Come in, watch the trees, check for trucks on the road before landing. Great fun.

I love that little strip, it's a pretty fancy set-up. I havn't been there in several years though.

I noted the date of your posting: 11 sep 2010. I also flew to a grass strip on 11 sep 2010. Like me, did you also receive a phone call from the police afterwards, expressing their concerns that they thought the Arabs were attacking on the anniversary of the WTC center hijackings?

No. But then again I'm Northern Irish, I have my own such issues to contend with.

There is a grass strip just to the north of us in Radium Hot Springs (CBL6). It isn't used very much because it is pretty rough, but at least once a year you can count on either some German tourists phoning the police saying a plane has crashed in the river, or some guy phoning saying a small plane was flying 'way too close' to his precious condo (that he didn't realize was next to an airport)...

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

BL6 is pretty soft in a few places most of the year, I don't think someone thought it all the way through when considering how close it is to the water table. Wasn't there some guy who went into the weeds there a little while back when he had it confused with Fairmont (CYCZ)? A little longer back I think there was a guy who confused the strip with the rail line right beside it and landed on CPRail's property too, but its possible I could be thinking of another incident.

Congrats on 1st grass landing. Nothin' like a little mud and grass under the wings.....
You're correct, it is a very nice facility and nice folk too.
I was last there during the August fly in and there was a fair crowd given the weather.
