not by choice.
They give you an option to receive a discount rather than collecting Aeroplan points. But you have to be an Aeroplan member in order to opt out.
In other words, I get a discount for allowing them to disclose my information to a marketing company.
I wonder if they'll treat me to another green banana for dessert.

Let's not.
Air Atlanta Icelandic will be providing trans-atlantic services from Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto beginning next June using 747 aircraft.
Don't get me wrong, I have some good friends at AC and I don't necessarily hold any aversion towards the airline, I'm just sayin is all.

Maybe you should get an Aeroplan number, after all it will lead to FREE FLIGHTS!
I don't see Air whoever offering you that...

Re: Ok so I booked a flight on Air Canada...
And the point of this thread is?
Re: Ok so I booked a flight on Air Canada...
I've booked a lot of flights for friends this past summer and was always able to opt out without providing an aeroplan #

Wow Air Atlanta Icelandic...what a standup operation

Re: Ok so I booked a flight on Air Canada...
Yeah, I knew it was pointless posting in here.
As for having an Aeroplan number, you need to use it within 12 months in order for it to stay valid.
So I gave them a bit of extra cash, oh well.
I can be as cynical as the next guy, but nobody is forcing you to be here.

Do you feel better now that you've put everyone else down?Mustard wrote:

And if you go anywhere that offers discounts to members, and you're not a member, they won't give you a discount either.

What a useless thread

And what a useless response, thank you for your contribution.TyrellCorp wrote:What a useless thread
If you are looking for something more meaningful, perhaps something by Carl Sagan would suit you.
For the record, my main gripe is actually with the "loyalty" program Aeroplan.
I had been a member of Aeroplan for years, and my wife still is. Then, because I live abroad and didn't use them for over a year, I lost thousands upon thousands of points. I never got to use my points and they took them away from me for good. Now I just refuse to use them, even if it means saving $10 on a flight with Air Canada.
I noticed there is a class action lawsuit against Aeroplan for similar practices. All that data they collected about me, and what did I get? A kick in the aѕѕ.
Re: Ok so I booked a flight on Air Canada...
If I'm not mistaken, Aeroplan is a separate entity no longer owned by AC.

Boo hoo hoo! When you signed up for Aeroplan you agreed to their Terms & Conditions, now your whining about it. Don't like it then don't sign up!g5 wrote:And what a useless response, thank you for your contribution.TyrellCorp wrote:What a useless thread

bmc, you're right, according to wikipedia, Air Canada unloaded Aeroplan in 2008.
Still, I'm not certain if the "use within one year or lose all your points" thing has always been that way, or if it was changed at some point. I know my points with oneworld are good for three years so I should probably just focus on using them now that I've lost all of my aeroplan points.
Tell me, bmc, who do you use when you fly home? I prefer AC, or at least I do since Zoom went bust. My favourite airline ever is Austrian, but they only fly to Toronto.
whiteguy from Calgary, thank you for your input. Come on, as if anyone would waste their time reading the fine print when signing up for a stupid loyalty marketing program.

I fly AC when going back to Canada. The international economy product is not bad. I don't like domestic. On the other hand, I don't like any North American domestic.g5 wrote:

For business, BA is my preferred choice. I love that airline. They treat me like I'm the only passenger they have. And, more importantly, their wine buyer is top notch. I usually pick my wine for supper, then chose the meal to go with it. (deep denial I have a wine drinking problem).

When I signed up for Aeroplan there was nothing about losing all your points if you weren't active for a year, or dating your points. When you got points they were yours. They changed the Terms & Conditions that I signed up with.whiteguy wrote:Boo hoo hoo! When you signed up for Aeroplan you agreed to their Terms & Conditions, now your whining about it. As far as I'm concerned, if you want advice on which brand of peanut butter goes best on crackers, so be it. Someone will have an opinion (or maybe a kick-a$$ concoction). For those who don't like it, change the channel. Sheesh!
The 'idiot' might be the guy flying the Otter on your next fishing trip and he may do it a whole lot better than you can.
