Re: Kirby Lake Crash Oct 25th
Could be a low level loss of control from icing.
There was another King Air loss in Minnesota the NTSB attributed to loss of control from icing with, as I remember, a Senator on campaign aboard.

Very sad. Glad there weren't more fatalities.
Could someone please pm me the names of the crew? Anyone have news on the condition of the first officer?

Things like this are why it is important to have a fan out list. My sister has numbers/emails of family/friends who should be contacted in the event of an accident at my company. That way I don't have to field calls, and company doesn't either. It allows you to concentrate on other things, work towards helping those who really need it

I live in Lethbridge so if anyone dosen't mind, I would like to have an arrangement sent on behalf of AvCanada.
You can pm me a message that I will print and attach to the card. I think it's soo important that family realizes why he did what he did, how much he enjoyed it, and how many friends he made on the way.
Until Monday night, have your say.
Frances

Just found out who it was this afternoon. Great guy, he was just finishing when I was starting flight training. I remember when he got the call from borek. I can't believe how much it changes your perspective when you know the person involved.

Pilot killed in northern Alberta plane crash identified
By Michael Wood, QMI Agency
CALGARY - The pilot killed in a plane crash near a remote northeastern Alberta landing strip has been identified as Andrew Fielding.
Fielding, 31, was one of two pilots aboard the Beechcraft King Air 100 when it slammed into muskeg mere metres shy of the Kirby Lake airstrip Monday morning.
The plane, operated by Calgary-based Kenn Borek Air Ltd., was carrying seven British Petroleum workers and one contractor from Edmonton to the remote, BP-owned runway near Conklin, about 350 km northeast of Edmonton.
Fielding was killed while the passengers, including another pilot, suffered various injuries of which four were listed as serious.
In Calgary, Fielding's relatives declined to speak with media Friday night.
A safety manager for Kenn Borek Air Ltd. also declined to comment out of respect for Fielding's shaken family.
"They just lost their son and the entire Kenn Borek Air family and the Fielding family are grieving," said Cory Marchuk.
Transportation Safety Board officials are still trying to determine what went wrong to cause the plane to slam into a boggy hill about 30 metres short of the runway after activating its emergency beacon.
Bill Kemp, a TSB investigator, said they have recovered the cockpit voice recorder, which will be sent to an Ottawa lab for analysis.
So far, a cause is far from apparent, he said.
"At the stage we're at right now, there doesn't appear to be anything that is highly significant as far as the aircraft itself is concerned," Kemp said on Thursday.
A memorial service for Fielding will take place Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m. at Victory Christian Fellowship near Lethbridge.

Just got back home to YOW from Andrew's memorial service. It looked to me like it was almost a full auditorium for the service. I was just amazed at the strength his parents appeared to have. I can only assume it comes from their faith.
I hope that his familly is able to continue to draw support from each other and their friends to go on without him.
It's really too bad that we generally can't fully appreciate the depth of someones character until they're gone.

Re: Kirby Lake Crash Oct 25th
Anyone have the link to the report? Can't find it on the TSB site or I'm missing it.
Re: Kirby Lake Crash Oct 25th
Brutal...a working stall horn would have probably prevented the crash.
Re: Kirby Lake Crash Oct 25th
They will not post the report on the website until they have it in both official languages. You can request it from the TSB and they will mail it though.Zapp Brannigan wrote:Anyone have the link to the report? Can't find it on the TSB site or I'm missing it.

I haven't read the report myself yet. But on the day of the crash there was mod to sev ice (freezing rain) in the kirby area. The stall horn doesn't work worth a darn on the king airs in ice anyway so i doubt that was "the straw that broke the camels back?
