On 14 August 2007, additional tank of an aircraft MIG 21 Lancer belonging Air Base Bacau 95, broke away and fell on a meadow in the village Chitii, on the border county of Neamt Vaslui County. The plane is in a weather research mission. Empty fuel tank was recovered, without causing casualties or damage.

On 22 November 2006, a MiG 21 crashed LanceR simple control near a warehouse in Arad municipality Beliu on Forestry property. The plane belonged to the 71st Air Base Campia Turzii and perform a training flight from Campia Turzii to Arad. The pilot failed to catapult the time and died. After the crash, near a crater formed by 7 m.

On 8 March 2005, a MiG-21 type unit LanceR, which belonged to the military base at Fetesti and perform a training mission, crashed 10 km from the city of Braila Intercourse between localities Bărăganu and Victoria. Following the loss of aerodynamic stability, the aircraft engaged in tail spin, evolution can not be controlled airplanes MiG 21 Lancer. Even before the plane crash into the ground, the pilot managed to escape with his life and catapult.

On 26 August 2004, the first plane crash occurred in Romania with simultaneous involvement of two MiG-ROMs, produced as a result of turbulence. Two MiG 21 LanceR simple command, belonging to the 71st Air Base Campia Turzii taken off the military base on the moon, collided during a training flight exhibition. Pilots were catapulted into the town of Mures county Nazna. One aircraft crashed in the town Cristesti, wounding a local resident and the other in the village Santioana, injuring two people. Aircraft have been destroyed.

On 25 September 2003, a military aircraft MIG 21 Lancer with a single command, belonging to the 71st Air Base, crashed in the village Viisoara, 7-8 km from Turda Plain, while you perform a training flight. The pilot failed to catapult and loses his life upon impact with the ground unit. Pieces of the aircraft were scattered over a radius of approximately 500 meters from the production of impact with the ground. Aviator was one of the best Romanian military pilots, with 1279 flying hours to his credit, is a specialist class I. The Commission of Inquiry found that the pilot be able to catapult, but preferred to try to save the aircraft.

On 22 October 2002, device A 5907 Lancer MiG 21 crashed near Bacau. The pilot managed to save himself.

On 26 March 2002, a plane crash occurred near the town of Cluj Sandulesti, involving a MiG 21 Lancer A 9811. The device, with a simple command, belonged to the 71st Group Campia Turzii and perform a training flight. Due to a technical failure, the plane crashed. The pilot has catapulted him to order.

On 21 February 2002, an Air Force Base pilot died after the collapse of 86 MiG-21 Lancer A 6001's in a lake in the city Cuza Voda, Calarasi county.

On 13 July 2001, a MiG 21 Lancer C 7017 crashed Zemes-Moinesti region of Bacau, causing slight injuries to the pilot managed to catapult. The accident caused no damage. SC Aerostar SA Bacau Management, which owned the plane, said LanceR MiG 21 is in a flight test program.

I glanced at the Romanian press briefly yesterday because of the headlines; in one newspaper (don't remember which one) a witness stated that he heard that the engine stopped, the nose went up briefly then the nose went straight down. Make what you wish of it.
One of the pilots (the second shown in the news reports) had less than 1000 hrs total, 830 of which were on type. He was 40 years old. I don't remember seeing the details about the other pilot.

Wow that's actually a fair bit of time on type. That would be quite a few yrs of flying in our military.

Actually, to be quite frank, Romania has lost 24 migs in only 20 years. The numbers are even bigger. According to a friend of mine who's an ex-AME for the Romanian Military, the maintenance done there is top notch. May they rest in peace and hopefully be the last to die at the mercy of russian jets.
