Question for those who have left or been laid off
Hello, I was wondering what those AME's that have left the industry were able to transfer their skills towards in terms of employment. We are currently facing layoff's and besides that I have been contemplating the idea to leave the industry for some time (just not into it anymore and cant see myself at this for much longer). Just wondering what those thay have been laid off or left the industry have moved on to. I would believe that the skills we have would be transferable towards something else. Any responses would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

You could be a mushroom or a prostitute.
Seriously though, what are you good at or what do you want to do? I know people that have moved on to industrial HVAC and oil rigs.

My dad was an A.M.E for many years, left after awhile and starting teaching high school shop classes.

Had a buddy a couple years ago throw in the towel, to get on with Telus.
How can you tell which one is the pilot when you walk into a bar?....Don't worry he will come up and tell you.

Don't know where you are but Vestas in Ontario is always looking for techs on the wind turbines. At one time the ad was asking for AME's. I had 20 years in aviation, now own an excavation company and occasionally take small aviation contracts to keep license current.

I have been working in exploration, in remote Canada. It feels good to put money back in the buisness, instead of being responsible for all the expenses. An aviation mechanic can do most whatever they want to do. Just a bit nervous until you find your thing.
Life's a wonderful thing, and aviation will always be there if you get bored,
Good luck
