Jazz lands in YXD

Post by yycflyguy »

Anyone have any info on the Dash-8 Jazz flight that landed at the Edmonton Municipal and not the International (CYEG) yesterday morning?

The sketchy, third hand info I received was that the plane was returning due to fog in YQU and landed at the "wrong" airport. Sounds fishy. Just hoping someone could clarify it.

nothing in CADORS

nothing on Avherald

nothing in the YYC DH8 Bidpak

QK8475 departs YYC for YQU

it shows up as having been scheduled to operate YEG-YXD-YEG that day but was canceled

Very fishy considering how many things have to go on to land at the wrong airport in a radar environment. Some controller on arrival would have cleared them to a fix for a runway or the visual, then said hey are you going direct???
You appear to be headed to YXD.
I have been to YXD in the dash for a Calgary flames charter and I have also had YXD as an alternate. More likely one of these two situations.

Yeah, it shows up as "landed at wrong airport" in the remarks section when a DFR is requested on the QK flight. The Flames played in yyc last night and the oilers played in Montreal so it wasn't a hockey charter. Like I said, the comment was made to me that it returned due to fog in yxu but the source wasn't very credible.

surely someone knows how to search this flight on flightaware

perhaps they needed to land at their alternate of CYXD if they were unable to land at their destination of CYQU

Likely a charter...either the Calgary Flames or Calgary Hitmen hockey teams.

Apparently they charter a Jazz AC and go into City Centre rather than EIA for ease of access to Rexall Place (I posed the same question about a year ago & that was the answer I received).

Read my post 2 above yours. Not a hockey charter. They ended up in yxd after failing to make it to yxu as their destination and it is suggested that yeg was the alternate. Lots of patchy fog the day it happened. Perhaps their alt yeg went below mins and they ended up in yxd. Whatever. It's no biggie.

The dash doesn't have the range to make it to YXU (London) anyway, probably a good thing they didn't go there.

Ha! That's what you get for typing a reply on an iPhone. I meant their original destination was YQU - Grande Prairie.

I think there should be a "Who Cares" forum...for stuff like this. So that all the eager beavers, wondering why Plane A didn't land at Airport A, but instead went to Airport W, can chit chat amongst your lonely selves and ponder these serious uneventful occurrences.

Wow, I got another one guys. I saw a Max Aviation King Air land at CYYC and not St. Hubert. Totally overshot the Montreal area. Any explanations?

Pete, some of us still care that airplanes--any airplanes--still land at CYXD. A DH8 landing is cause for interest.

Speaking of YXD, is there only an NDB approach now?

About a month ago I was in YXD on a charter and there was 1 Jazz Dash and 2 Regional 1 Dash 8's a wack of 1900D's, its quiet a regular thing. I highly doubt they landed at the wrong airport most likely a charter or their alternate.
