I landed a C182 in YQB in 35G41, pretty rough and turbulent, had problems controlling the airplane on ground as the airplane was always turning into the wind at every gust. Be pulled it through.

July, I've been into BX with a 185 on floats when the wind was NE 40G55. Sailing backwards on the Trout Pond with zero flap and 1500 RPM. :)

Maybe that 3 kt. xwind was a result of 50 kt. winds 5 degrees off the runway.

50 gust 60 at lethbridge, it happens a few times a year there and it's normal for it to be 30 gusting 40. But it sure melts the snow away

catabatic winds off the Greenland icecap. Good job Thule had hangar space. Watched the stripper for two days in the bar.
Saw two unmanned Twin Otters flying once in Resolute, flaps down, each tied to two full drums per side. 95 mph.
Try 50kts plus across runway in Eureka, empty, on big wheels.

Nice pic TG!
The most wind I landed in was 55g69 in a 185 at Campbel River Spit. The forcast was for Gale force (they blew it... excuse the pun). The wind measure was from the Cape Mudge light house about five miles downwind. luckily I didn't have to turn to make it to the dock or leave again. Slow trip home...
On another note: I was at YVR when the RCMP opened the hanar doors at Peidmont into 70 knots and the roof blew off!

25 kt 90 degree crosswind on a gravel road (20ft wide) with a cessna A188B (Ag truck) which many a pilot have described as "pushing a rope down the road"

Flying in Lethbridge I saved some of the METAR's because I was literally blown away:

METAR CYQL 150000Z 25048G70KT 15SM FEW070 08/M06 A2928 RMK AC1 BD PRESRR FOEHN WALL SLP924=

The Fohn Wall is pretty neat. Formed by the cap cloud of the lee mountain wave. Looks like a water fall of cloud coming over the mountain.

METAR CYQL 142300Z 25046G69KT 15SM FEW070 10/M06 A2920 RMK AC1 BD SLP894=

and it goes on...

The wrangyist (is that a word?) wind I've ever come across was on the Ungava Bay coast at Kortak (sp?) with the Racer. Went in to pick up a couple of prospectors. No indication of wind. Smooth ride. Had to use a little more control than usual, but it didn't seem TOO bad. Then on the roll out, the beast weather-cocked. I've always found the Dak to be a great cross-wind bird.....till you put the tail down!
These guys were in their tents and weren't expecting us due to the winds! Had to have been 50 to 60 kts at 70 degrees....but really smooth?
I landed an Ercoupe (remember them things?) into Guelph Air Park with the wind 45 Kts....right down the chute....after two cups of coffee, I finally landed!
But I would NEVER launch a Metro with the kind of tail wind the guys were talking about in this thread! That's just plain stupid! If a "bird dog" has a problem with it....stuff it! Not YOU Bird Dog! You are the King of your ship. NOBODY has the right to put you in an unsafe position but YOU!!!
Use some common sence out there people!

I second that...

There is no way a Ho would handle 65 KT Xwind, infact I cant see any AC handleing that kind of Xwind.
There is a big difference between straight into wind and 90 degrees x/ wind.

The most difficult that I did was 50 knots 90 degrees in a blowing snow condition in Resolute bay....in a DC3. ( 1971 )

Cat
Thank you Cat Driver, I have told some of my friends about landing a DC-3 in a 45 Knot 90 degree crosswind at Snap Lake NWT but no one would believe me.

By the way I did this in 2002, 31 years after you. Its good to see something’s don’t change.

35 gusting 40 at YYC in a 172. Wind was right down the pipe on 25 so it wasn't too bad, although my passenger didn't like it very much.

King Air Guy wrote:45 KTS in a tube?!?!? holy sh!t, that is retarded. We'll do 35 KTS in a King Air and it does a good job of it, but the tube has really small ailerons...I would think that would have been some pucker factor 10 in that cockpit.

Cheers.
You'll land with a 35 kt tail wind in a King Air? Wow, I hope you're joking or that I misread you.
