Finnair A340 aborts taxiway take-off in Hong Kong!!!

From Accident Board in Finland who has begun an investigation,

The Accident Investigation Board of Finland has decided to appoint an accredited representative of Finland, the State of Registry, to participate in an investigation conducted by The Accident Investigation Division of the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD). The investigation is conducted into a serious incident which occurred in Hong Kong on 26 November 2010 and which involved an Airbus A340 aircraft operated by Finnair Plc.

Director of Accident Investigation Board of Finland Dr Veli-Pekka Nurmi has been appointed as the accredited representative of Finland. Chief Air Accident Investigator Mr Markus Bergman from Accident Investigation Board of Finland and Vice President, Safety and Compliance Management, Captain Mr Antti Aukia from Finnair Plc have been appointed as advisers to assist the accredited representative in the investigation.

The serious incident occurred at Hong Kong international airport when an Airbus A340 aircraft operated by Finnair Plc on a scheduled flight from Hong Kong to Helsinki initiated takeoff from a taxiway which was located next to and parallel to the runway in use. The air traffic control noticed the occurrence and ordered the pilots to abort the takeoff. There was no other traffic on the taxiway at the time of the occurrence. The incident did not cause any injuries to persons nor any damage to the aircraft. The departure of the flight was delayed due to the occurrence but the flight arrived to Helsinki less than an hour delayed.
