Foreign controller recruitment

Post by horton »

NavCanada stopped their experienced controller program several years ago. Is there any indication if this will be restarted?

Have foreign, experienced controllers been recruited by NavCanada after applying through the 'take charge' website - to train as a new 'ineperienced' controller, or is this option only open to genuine new people?

Several years ago NavCanada's old website had a map with the location of all their facilities. I cannot find this on their current site so does anyone have a link to it?

Are there any airports in Canada where the ATS is not provided by NavCanada?

As to the non NavCanada units:

First is Southport Manitoba where the tower is a contract tower run by Serco for Southport INC (I believe). Phone 204-428-6030 and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Second is In Goose Bay Labrador where Serco runs a military Tower and Terminal operation. It's small in terms of staff. I worked up there with a number of Americans so they are/were welcome if positions existed. Call 709-896-6900 and ask for the ATC manager.

Experienced controller program in NavCanada? Haven't heard a word on it vis a vis revamping, restructuring or not bothering. Have you contacted them? Try 1-800-876-4693 and explain what you are looking for.

Hi Horton,

Don't quote this for truth, but as far as I know the Nav Canada experienced controller program is done, without thoughts for restarting. You can re-train as a 'new controller' just like anyone else, assuming you get through the selection process etc..

I'm not sure what you're asking for as far as Nav Can facilities, but here is a map of their facilities across Canada that is pretty much up to date.

http://www.navcanada.ca/NavCanada.asp?L ... itymap.xml

ATS is provided across Canada by Nav Canada only.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. Really unfortunate that the experienced controller scheme has been closed.

I guess that to fulfill my dream of living in Canada it might be time to leave ATC (after 15+ years) and retrain as an electrician/plumber....

Southport is now handled by Midwest ATC out of Kansas City. Midwest provides ATC in about 80 towers in the USA plus Gitmo and Southport. They also do ATC for the military in Iraq and Afghanastan.

Southport needs to hire qualified/licensed Canadian Tower Controllers. Anybody know of a recently retired tower controller looking for a job??? Or even an older controller that is bored with retirement!!!! Send me an email..

Have been hoping that the experienced controller programme would open again for some time. Do you know if anywhere will consider an ex Military controller (RAF and RAAF) currently employed in Australia? Hoping to get across to the USA/Canada somehow! Thanks

Yes the official program may be closed but they are still actively hiring experienced controllers from other nations. Your best bet would be to contact the Manager IFR Training for the unit that you are interested in.

Miswest ATC is actively looking for tower controllers for Southport. If you have a tower rating, you can have a job tomorrow. Housing is cheap, the pay isn't bad and the people are great. Apply today. Foreigners with a Tower rating? Ask Midwest. See their ad on here. Just search for Southport.
