Is FNT a good company to work for?

Post by UWOflyer »

Hey...
I was invited for an interview for a ramp position which will hopefully lead to a flying job. I was wondering what it's like working for this company. How long do rampies usually have to wait for a flying position? Any info or useful tips would be great!

P.S. What's the best way to get to Gimli from Winnipeg Airport. Bus?Car?Train?

Thanks

I met some guys that worked there last summer. From what I could tell they worked pretty hard but it looked like an alright place to pay your dues. I don't know what the opportunities are like for advancement to a flying position.

being a crewman has to be the single best ramp/wannabe position to have. What you'll learn from sitting and watching the guys fly the plane around will definately help you when it comes time to fly.

Get a copy of the last Aviatior magazine. There is a write up on the operation. I gave them a hand a couple times last year in Armstrong. The door makes it nearly impossible to load stuff without handbombing. If I could afford to work for less. I would'nt mind spending my summer riding around in the Commando. Drive

I'd say good company to work for, To get to Gimli drive. It is about a hour north of the city. If you are ready to work and Learn I am sure you would move up quick, thats how most companies work.

I'm curious to know if a "crewman" will ever see a pilot position within that company?? Don't they have really high time requirements to even get into a seat on the C46?? What about the King Air 200? Is it realistic to think that someone with 500 hours is going to upgrade from the ramp into the right seat??

At Buffalo its not uncommon for a guy to start with 250 hours into the right seat of the dc-3, dc-4 or C-46

In WW2 a guy with 500 hours was a senoir capt on the same planes.

Yes it is reasonable.

I know people there that have moved up from crewman, all you need to fly a DC3 or C46 is the IATRA passed and the PPC ride. For the king Air you need just the PPC. A crewman gets to see everything and fly with the plane every trip so what better person to move up...

Bring a pair of work gloves to the interview. I doubt it'll be a standard interview process. If any out of towners get on, there's a crew house in downtown Peg with 2 rooms available at $350 inclusive.
PM me if you want

Are these open interviews? My information was that there is just a cattle call at 10am on Fri Apr 22.

I know someone who got an interview to go up there. He received the invite from the CP for a specific date and time. I'm not sure what cattle-call interviews are, but I imagine that they invited a certain amount of people to come.

C-HRIS: was it a Word document attached to an email reply that talked about the interview and the job in general. By cattle call I just meant open interviews where tons of people might show up, kind of like what Northway was having a few weeks ago.

Not sure what my friend got as a response. I got an attachment from the CP in my email response, which I just realized right now (I received 2 responses with no text in the body, just an attached file, which I thought was my own resume! :? ).

Oh well, it's too late for me to get up to YWG right now anyway by tomorrow morning for the interviews. It looks like they are cattle-calls.

Here is a copy of the response:

We will be conducting interviews at the Gimli Airport,MB on Friday the 22 of April,2005 at 10:00 am. Interviews will be held at FNT First Nations Transportation’s hanger at the Gimli Airport. The hanger is located beside the ATC tower at Gimli. If you are hired ,you will start immediately Things that you require as an employee on the C-46 are; work clothes, gloves, head set etc. You must have your own vehicle and you are responsible for housing and meals.
