One of my AME pals, (not automotive licsensed), has a huge fleet of collector vehicles. He signs his own safety inspections with his AME Lic #. Personally, I'm sure it wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell if he ever found himself in court and these days with the doubtlessly increasing automation of the insurance business, I expect they'll catch up to him. He doesn't think he's being fraudulent. He says, "So I sign off a 747 but I can't change the brakes in my Model T?! Hey, I built the %&@# things ~ ! Who else is going to know whether they are safe enough? People these days are such a whiny bunch of helpless cocksuckers.." and it goes down-hill from there.

For myself, I have a neibour who has the automotive ticket and the stamp. I call it the "Drive Through Safety Inspection". A bottle of rum and me and my latest wood-truck are on our merry way, fresh Vehicular Safety Inspection form in hand.

What I consider the "Delux Inspection" is when he gets up off the couch and looks out the window to see that I actually drove in in what I said I did.

Redneck Neibours. Gotta' love em

I am unfamiliar with these so-called 'safety inspections' here in BC. Only when you import out-of-province vehicles or the cops pull you over and tell you to get one do you need a safety inspection.

Good thing too considering the jalopy I drive. But I figure that since I use aircraft hardware for the most part and only certify the work I perform that I should be alright. :smt042 :smt043 :smt044
