Imperial Oil / Esso Resources Air Transport Department - YYC
Does IOL / Esso still have a Flight Dept in YYC? I heard rumours that they had closed their doors. If so what happened?

Imperial Oil's Flight Department is officially non-existent. The aircraft has been sold into the USA and severance packages have been issued. Definitely a sad day in corporate aviation across Canada.

Photo C-GESO Challenger 300 of Imperial Oil Limited YYC
Aircraft's last flight on Canadian registry was Sept 26/10
Aircraft deleted from Canadian registry Sept 30/10
Currently N61TF based Salinas, California.
Very sad, have been operating bizjets since they took delivery in Toronto of a
Falcon 20C C-FESO in October 1966. (it later became a FEDEX Falcon 20DC and
is now donated to a technical school in Spain).

Thank you for the picture of the 300. Interesting that IOL entered and exited the jet-age with an "ESO" registration. It is a shame to hear of a company shutting down their Flight Department with such a long history. Was there a reason for closing the Flight Department?
What was the story on IOL's CL601-3A (s/n 5034?)? I believe that it was up for sale for about 2 years and was then donated to SAIT? Why didn't it sell?
The oil companies provided a lot of good jobs in aviation for a lot of people for many years.

TAX deductions ; I'm sure they came out ahead in the deal - I assume they got a bigger tax write-off by donating, than the capital loss on a sale.
