Southern Manitoba Float Operators
I'm looking for some opinions about the southern manitoba float operators that would look at someone around 600hrs TT about 400 float, I'm hoping to stick around for a while. I'd like to stay in the area of southern manitoba, the companies I've noticed are Adventure Air, Northway, Blue Water Aviation, Wam Air and I think Sabourin, but it doesn't sound like a long term place. I've done a search and there isn't much on any of these companies. Any other companies I missed?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Southern Manitoba Float Operators
He's already put his time in in the north he's ready to settle down to a long term southern job where he can be at home every night, hence his high time...lost in the north wrote:Why only southeren Manitoba?
Just kidding I don't know the guy or his reasons but if I was hiring this is what came to my mind first.
Best of luck float lifter. I think you have named all the southern company's I have heard of. I don't know what there requirements are time wise, but it looks like you have a season in on floats so far, so who knows might work out.

I'm not stuck on southern manitoba, but I figure a float vetran like myself could write my own ticket
I'd prefer that area so I figured I might as well concentrate my efforts there to start and go from there. Has anyone worked for these companies recently?
Thanks

There are lots of operations right next door. Kenora, red lake, ear falls(kabeelo ad), nestor falls, vermillon bay, fort francis, etc. Road trip time is soon among us, pack your shit up and go for a ride!

What little I do know is either not important or I've forgotten it!

Settle down. Methinks sarcasm doesn't always translate well over the interwebs.

Re: Southern Manitoba Float Operators
I spent a couple seasons in northern Manitoba but that was a few years ago; what little I did know about Wamair and Bluewater is probably out of date and of little help to you. Had a friend work for WA-didn't seem too crazy about it and pay was on the low side IIRC.
Re: Southern Manitoba Float Operators
Blue Water Aviation, great bunch of guys. Your time is low don't know if they would take you. Give them a try, you never know! Adventure Air, don't know to much about these guys, heard the kid running the show has a hard time keeping pilots and girlfriends
I guess it all boils down to how bad you want to stay in the south. Happy Flying.

Re: Southern Manitoba Float Operators
Obviously I'm looking at starting in a cessna. Does anyone know what Blue Water is running, from what I can tell they have a 185 and a couple otters (not sure piston or turbine, maybe one of each). I've seen some things referencing a beaver but not too much and they don't have one registered, it could be leased I guess, does anyone know if they have one? So I guess the real question is if last years 185 driver is coming back, I heard them occasionally on the radio last summer they seemed pretty busy when I was in radio range.
WAM Air seems to just be running freight with 208s, mostly on wheels so they're out. Adventure Air seems like they've gotten into the lodge buisness which could mean some varied experience (read construction) but it can also mean lots of flying.
Thanks for the replies so far.

With 600tt and 400 floats, try getting a beaver job. I've seen guys with that time get hired. Back in my early days in Ontario, Our insurance comp. wouldn't touch guys with less than 1000tt and 500 floats for a beaver job, but times have changed. Give both companies a try they both have cessna's. Good Luck to you.

Re: Southern Manitoba Float Operators
Well I thought I'd share what I've found out so far in case anyone else is on the same search I am. I've expanded my search eastward to kenora, manaki etc...
WAM Air in the process of changing hands and really only operate 208s on wheels
Blue Water Aviation apparently the chief pilot is/has retired so that makes it hard to talk to him about a job anyone know who to contact?
Thats about the extent of what I've found out through phone calls etc...
hopefully as spring gets closer some of these seasonal operators will become more active, and maybe a drive is in my future.

Now we are going to be picky? Your whopping 600tt is sweet @#$# all! You should take what you can get if you want a job this season.
Of course that is only my humble opinon.

Float lifer go after the job thats going to pay you the most. The author of the quote sure sounds like a owner/operator to me. 600tt may not be a whole lot of time but someone out there will be glad to have you on their team.

Re: Southern Manitoba Float Operators
All I'm saying is I wouldn't be to picky if you want a seat this season. mabe there will be something better that comes along. There is really not many job opertunities for a low time guy espically that pay well.
Where are all these jobs? I'm not sure what an owner/operator "sounds" like? Please explain.DHCdriver wrote:Float lifer go after the job thats going to pay you the most. Re: Southern Manitoba Float Operators
I don't know if your a owner/operator, but I get the sense from comments like your 600 hours is sweet f-all, comes from guys that are looking for low timers so they can get the job done(usually first summer 185 drivers) as cheap as they can because the poor sap whats to fly so bad. I don't know Float Lifer situation, but with 400hrs floats he probably has a summer of floats under his belt. So what I'm suggesting is go after something a little better than that 185/ramp job the guys are offering out there. There are a lot of jobs out there that are not posted. Sometimes you have to go a visit these guys and talk to them, what can it hurt. Companys out there will try you out on there beaver with that time, it might be a 50/50 deal with the cessna but it is a foot in the door. I'm just ranting about my personal expierences that I went through earlier in my career and it all worked out for me. Happy flying.floatpilot wrote:All I'm saying is I wouldn't be to picky if you want a seat this season. mabe there will be something better that comes along.
