Cirrus Aircraft company sold to China . . not kidding :(

Post by bizjets101 »

I'm guessing the story will be all over all the aviation sites today . . .

Cirrus industries, an aircraft manufacturer with plants in Grand Forks and Duluth has been sold.

Cirrus announced today that a Chinese company, called, "China Aviation Industry General Aircraft", will take control later this year. It says the new company will continue to invest in North Dakota and Minnesota employees for the continued use of their world class production facilities.

CAIGA - same guys buying the SJ-30, hmmmm . . .

China recently opened up GA, i.e. sky under 3000 meters or something like that. There are now 1 millionaire per 1700 people give or take .. so we can expect GA to take off in China over the next few years. I imagine within a few years they will be selling 5x as many in China as outside ;) but the bad news is they may move manufacturing to China once they learn exactly how to do it properly.

BBC is doing a documentary: "The Chinese are Coming"

No doubt in my mind that within the next few decades the Chinese will become a major economic and business force to contend with. A lot of it has to do with work ethic.

I hope they will still install those parachutes, or at least placard the aircraft if there is one missing!

Wow, where have you been the last decade? This is well in past tense now.

Last time I checked 7 years ago most of the (used to be north american) software development was already done there and in India, ditto for research. I think I should not even mention manufacturing. Just look where the product for the companies that are the "backbone of our economy" is coming from - Cisco, Intel, Garmin, etc. It has only furthered in the last 7 years. Services, ND and natural resource development - this seems to be what is making the US and Canadian economy to work these days for the large part.

Yes, Asia is positively booming. I spend quite a bit of time in and around Hong Kong, Singapore, Shenzhen, Beijing and they are glittering cities with amazing skyscrapers and economies that make New York and LA look pretty grotty. Now the flip side of this is that costs are rapidly escalating in China and the kids that write software etc. are seeing their salaries go up at a steady pace, while kids in North America are seeing stagnation etc.

What happens next is that the salaries will eventually equalize at which point it becomes cost effective to have kids in North America doing software type jobs again. Of course China will then have to look at outsourcing software to Korea , Vietnam or South Africa for cheaper labour.

Anyway blame the Internet .. its equalizing education opportunities world wide.

...and demand... If the Chinese are some of the biggest buyers of planes, they will try to build them...
