Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Yup, on the last episode they were also talking about the government subsidy contract for the valley run and how they were all concerned about their jobs because they've had the valley run for 20 years and if they lose the bid they'd be laid off....then, after they won the bid, Joe comments that "We'll do it all over again in 12 months." It had seemed like this contract might have been a multi year deal from the way they were talking, not an annual one. It would suck if they stressed like that every year.

For sure. I've heard that the waterbombing contract brings in some good money for them. Don't forget they use not only the CL-215s, but also a few DC4s, and the Barons & kingairs as bird dogs.

And the Cansos, don't forget the Cansos.

Nice to see them showering the Stanley Cup but after Mikey was done humping it, they really should have boiled it!

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Last week's episode where they made their last run to the lake with the DC-3 on skis was a great lesson on how things work in the real world.
They stuff the plane full with everything that is left to go. Nothing is put on scales and weighed. The tail wheel is flattened out. The chief pilot make the comment "I think we got too much shit in there is what I think".
Now if you were that green FO, do any of you I would never fly overloaded tough guys tell Arnie to "leave some stuff behind and make two trips? I will not fly overloaded and I think we might be."

How long does it usually take before the episodes get loaded online?

Concerning Joe's displeasure with the two lads that were flying the DC3 on the schedule run, they should have told him to get back with the other passengers because that's what he was, take a valium, and most of all.."Shut the f... up!"
Yeah, that would have been the end of their careers at Buffalo, but it would beat listening to that SOB and putting up with his crap! No one deserves that kind of abuse!

he wants good airmanship, he wants safety, he wants good pilots
he certainly does have the right to speak up and demand it i think
perhaps a bit more tact at times would be useful to spare feelings maybe

Do you think the fact that they have been working as rampies and flight attendants instead of pilots has anything to do with their performance in the right seat?

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Then why cant they take all that extra money they make as rampies and flight attendants, and rent an aircraft on their time off to keep their flying skills up? Perhaps Joe can give them a discount on a company aircraft to rent?
How can you tell which one is the pilot when you walk into a bar?....Don't worry he will come up and tell you.

Do you believe that him reaching up from the jump seat to move controls in flight is good airmanship? I don't recall the PIC telling him that he had control. Time for another license suspension I think.canwhitewolf wrote:he wants good airmanship, he wants safety, he wants good pilots

I wonder what Transport Canada thinks of Joe sitting on the jumpseat giving a line check without a valid license?
I do enjoy the mindless entertainment factor of the show....

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
I am sure that Joe knows exactly what he can and can't do. I imagine he has had more than one standoff with the boys at TC (which they mostly are now to him). I didn't see the episode but if the Captain was just sitting there and allowing the kind of flying that prompts an owner to get involved then it was either a setup or the Captain should get a line check. Soap opera for pilots.
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Then again, the way they cut and paste this show together he could have been doing the line check two months before his suspension. Haven't watched the episode yet though.

Sitting their mad at the world, taking it out on the young F/O. HHMMM!
Serious character flaw, and now the whole world knows it! I try to not get to pissed, because it's not in my nature. But! one thing I can't tolerate is people abusing authority.
Joe was way out of line, and fostering very little employee loyalty. Once you work for someone like Joe, everything else is easy, trust me!
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Mikey and the Stanley Cup .... good god, was all that really necessary?
I know they were playing it up for TV but come on. If that's the most interesting thing they could think to film, then having a 2nd season of this show was a serious error in judgment.

Yep, that flight was out of control, and not by the pilots. Joe was completely unwarranted in the way he was acting. The most dangerous part of that flight was him thinking that he was making things safer by reaching over and trying to manipulate the controls. The reason he got really mad was because the captain told Joe that he was going to quit if he didn't stop what he was doing, then when they landed he wrote Joe up in a long letter of everything that happened on the flight and handed it in to the safety officer. Andrew and Graeme are both great pilots and Joe just vents his daily frustrations on his employees it is that simple. There's no reading between the lines, working there is just that crazy!

Hats off to those young fellows for putting up with that crap, they have thicker skin than I have. If they just want some round time in their books stay a year than get the hell out of there. I also love those old birds but they are slowly phasing them out. It's a long road so they should get themselves established with a job that will benefit them in the long run. Best of luck Buffalo co-jo's.

I thought Mikey's shoot-out idea was great... and Justin... well that guy gives me the impression that he's an excellent pilot & damn good goalie!

yea its hard to watch the lack of diuplomacy, but what he was touching was the friction lock for the throttles and mentioning that problem

all he touched was the throttle friction and did that for a reason ( right or wrong)
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
What he needed to do is what I said in the first place. "Go back...sit down with the other passengers...and shut the f.... up!". If he had issues with pilot procedure, discuss it at a briefing after the flight. It appeared to me he had made up his mind before he even got on the airplane that he was going to make a nuisance of himself.

Just because you're OK with your passengers reaching forward and adjusting your throttle friction knobs doesn't make it right.canwhitewolf wrote:
