Jumpseat agreements

Just saw "Perimeter Aviation" job advertisement and curious about

"Pilots’ Jumpseat agreements with major carriers (Air Canada, WestJet, and others…)"

What is that mean? what's the benefits?

It means you can fly to Maui for $19.00.

You are the first pilot/pilot wannabe I have heard of, not knowing what a jumpseat is.

"Others" means. Sunwing, Porter,and Canjet.

Jumpseat privileges used to mean that you could travel by sitting in the jumpseat. After 9/11 the rules changed and only company employees of the specific carrier could sit in the jumpseat. Many airlines then allowed the jumpseat program to continue by using seats in the cabin instead of in the cockpit. Some, like Air Canada, limit the number of cabin seats occupied through the jumpseat program to the number of jumpseats in the aircraft. Others, like Westjet, have no limit on the number of jumpseat seats on a given flight.

This used to be a fantastic privilege as you had 1 or 2 seats in any given aircraft that you always had access to. Now you are standby (and lowest priority on the list) and have to hope there is a seat open.

In the US they have since changed the rules back to normal and employees of other airlines can jumpseat in the cockpit. In Canada we unfortunately haven't put enough pressure on TC to make this happen. Maybe next year.

I believe that "other" means Bearskin, Keewatin and Calm Air. With those others you can fly to all sorts of garden spots.

Nope, no jumpseats for Perimeter pilots on those airlines.

Current agreement is $25 per leg.

Like I said, Bearskin hasn't been rolled into the program yet.

If its cabin seats these days does that mean your wife could go with you? or meet you somewhere for the weekend? Or is it just specific to the employee?

I hope for you that you are working for a company with a sort of benefit.....becouse here at perimeter we enjoy flying for almost ``free`` with the majors airline in canada..Calm Air? sure if I want to see the polar bears. And when we want to get some good weather we fly for almost ``free`` down in the south wherever we want..I really hope is the same for you

It depends on the airline Krashman. My wife and parents can fly standby on some other Canadian carriers. Standby costs quite a bit more than jumpseating though. If you know when you are going to travel it's often better to just buy a ticket ahead of time.

Actually Bearskin and Perimeter have had a jumpseat agreement since December of 2009.

Ok to sum things up:

Perimeter pilots have jump seat agreements with the following:
-Air Canada
-Jazz
-Westjet
-Porter
-Sunwing
-Bearskin
-Canjet
Can't really get into specifics, but ONLY Perimeter PILOTS can use the privilege. No family, friends or rampies with a CPL.

In regards to intraline passes with fellow EIF companies, haven't really explored those much. You and your partner can travel along with your children.

I believe we have the approval from T.C, now it's up to the airlines to approve it internally and come up with a system. So the pressure needs to be put on the airlines..

Pretty much all the agreements outright state that the flight crew member will NOT be allowed in the cockpit jumpseat.

Between 3-4 years ago, TC approved the sitting of non-company employee in the jumpseat, and stated it was now up to the airlines to make their policies reflect such changes.
