Initial Multi IFR Perimeter or Pro Victoria
I have had a recent enquiry from a flying friend in Europe who will be coming to Canada to do his Multi IFR and we are attempting to decide on which schools out there may be best for him as he is on a tight schedule. Any opinions on the above two schools would be appreciated, accommodation will also be deciding factors.
Re: Initial Multi IFR Perimeter or Pro Victoria
In all honestly it would be a hard choice. Perimeter has historically been top notch, however the school is really missing their old CFI Bill. Talking to some of our ramp guys who are up there I hear the new CFI is really dropping the ball as far as getting people trained up and some of their newer instructors (albeit experienced guys) really don't follow the same program as each other. They also complained of getting screwed over for bookings due to the CFI's hobby of flying around some guys in a private twin. I had no problem up there myself but those are all rumours.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Pro in Victoria only has one Seminole, so if something breaks, or its in for maintenance, you might be waiting a little bit.

Wow. Who needs Coronation St (trying to work in a plug for the CBC) when you have AvCan? The drama and suspense is MUCH better here, but I will admit a bias for Rosie's boobies:

Hmmmmm.... Coming over from the UK, Victoria or the 'Peg?
Either school will get you the required knowledge, skill, and eventually ticket- I'd go for location. Also, I know Dave and Jason at Pro will do a great job in the minimum amt of time.

I don't know anything about Perimeter, so I can't comment, however I recently went through PRO in YYJ and it was excellent. Great instructors & DFTE. Nice atmosphere.

Well if accomodation is the deciding factor... Live in Winnipeg or live in Victoria.... hmmmm.

What about Pro IFR out of ZBB same company as in Victoria and they have the crew house for accommodation there for a reasonable price.
Re: Initial Multi IFR Perimeter or Pro Victoria
I've always heard good things about Perimeter and if you're thinking of Pro at Boundary Bay, I'd also have a look at Pacific Flying Club - I've heard they're doing a lot of IFR ratings and renewals with their simulators and are actually quite successful since they got more simulator choices
Re: Initial Multi IFR Perimeter or Pro Victoria
Hmmm. What season was he planning on doing the training?
For myself, that would be one factor that would be high on my consideration list. It not only affects your comfort, but also what kind of IMC type conditions you may get during the actual training. I always found it good for my confidence, to receive a broad range of real life conditions while still under supervision/instruction. Makes the first time on your own with those conditions, a bit less stressful.

In terms of the question though. Pick a school that is best for you. Winnipeg is cheaper to live in. Pick a school that has more than one airplane, etc etc
