lol, I saw a resume the other day in which the guy talked about how qualified he was to fly a space shuttle to land on the moon

I have heard from insider sources that it takes about 1500 hours right now to get hired. My room mate just got hired with less than 2000 and next to NO multi time...

I DID NOT know that. Booo Hisss! Funny how pilots just keep coughing up money. Or, perhaps it's their parents who keep getting milked? Really glad I'm not just getting into this ass hole industry!

BS! A promissary note maybe, but I am fairly certain they do not have a bond. I know for SURE they require no money up front.

My buddy got on a few months ago and if I remember right it was some sort of joint account deal where if you give them the bond money (can't remember how much it was) they pay you the money back and interest on top of that, or you take a loan and they pay the loan interest and the principal back to you. I think he said there is some sort of protection if the company goes TU as well but not 100% sure.

So, you have no first hand knowledge, one way or the other?
Anybody? I had never heard of a bond there before.

This is first hand information: The bond is $10,000 upfront for 24 months. If you have a loan they give you a direct deposit every month that goes against your loan. They also pay the interest.

Hmm interesting....
I applied there with 2700TT and about 1100Turbine PIC never even got a call or interview. Too much time perhaps?

I didn't want that job to be a quick upgrade or anything like that either. I have family that lives in the area and I'm sick of alberta. So I applied for the right reasons!

I few guys that I spoke with that got offers from Jazz had significantly less than a few guys who had interviews and got PFO letters. Conspiracy for us guys who have 'too much time' to be an FO with a commuter but 'not enough' for Air Can?

They tend to hire people from Manitoba FIRST (from what I've heard from people inside the company). The reason being, they don't want to hire someone who is from, say BC...because once he gets his hours, he's going back to BC, whereas someone who's roots is in Winnipeg will be far more likely to stay with Calm Air. This may or may not be a reason, as whacky as it sounds.

I do know things are a bit random right now. The CP (Astwood I think?) is a real nice and personal guy. Try a visit in person, maybe explain your situation. I'll try and fish around for more information, but please, take what I say with a grain of salt.

And I am still sure there is no training bond. Neither of my room mates who both work for Calm Air paid one.

Maybe your roommates are too embarrassed to admit they signed a bond. I know for a fact that some pilots who went to Calm air who had just signed a bond at Keewatin air. They were offered a job Calm Air, they took the Job and now had two bonds on the go. They were paying the one from Keewatin themselves while Calm Air paid theirs. This was a few years ago now, so maybe they dropped the bond at Calm air, but it's been there since I can remember. You even sign a bond for change of equipment, upto 5 years, then no more bonding(bondage).
It does reinforce to certain employers about the need for upfront bonds, which I completely disagree with and have never signed one.

Calm Air has had the bond fish4life described since the early 1980s at least; probably longer. Back then it was 10K for the Hawker, 5K for the King Air.

Well, I stand corrected. I asked one of them today and they did in fact sign the bond...the nice thing is, Calm Air takes the bond out for you and pays you back plus the interest amount (or prime +1 if the bond is out of your pocket)...That being said a bond is a bond.

My apologies, I didn't mean to have thick skin, but I was rather startled to hear they even have one.
