Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
Hospitals and Schools? Who are you trying to fool, that's way too left for you.
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!
Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
This is news how? This was an attempt by the liberals to be seen to be doing something, and then turned to corruption and scandal. Oh Well what else is new
Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
I'd rather it was spent on hospitals and schools too, but it wasn't and unfortunately we can't un-spend it. Unlike the $1 Billion Harper blew on the G20 summit though now we at least have something to show for the money spent on the gun registry. At least until Harper scraps it then it will truly have been a complete waste.Hedley wrote:I'd rather spend billions of dollars on hospitals and schools, but I'm considered extreme here for holding that opinion
So, it isn't really about the money is it?
Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
That's an exceedingly odd argument. Your logic is presumably, that it's ok to waste billions of dollars of the taxpayers' money because of the expense of the G20 summit?G20 summit
Let's try to get rid of the usual muddled left-wing thinking.
1) You could assert that in the interests of economy, that Canada should NEVER host at G8/G20 summit, despite being a member of it. Canada should renege on it's responsibilities as a member of the G8/G20, because you don't shave, live in a tree in BC and you steal your neighbour's wifi. Got that.
2) You could assert that the G8/G20 summit was unnecessarily expensive. That's absolutely hilarious - the lefties who fomented violence, complaining about the money the government had to spend, to try to keep the tree huggers under control as they committed criminal acts?!
Think of all the money the Canadian taxpayer could have saved, if the lefties stayed home and didn't riot. Then, the lefties blame the government for trying to control the rioting that for some bizarre reason occurs at every G8/G20 summit - not just the ones in Canada.
You got balls, trying to make that argument.
Very similar to the left-wing idiocy coming from the Liberals and NDP, asserting that the Conservatives spent too much, because the Liberals and NDP extorted the money out of the government, to try to keep the Conservative minority government from falling.
Reminds me of people who blame the rape victim. Not sure I buy that, either.
Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
It's not stealing, Hedley. This is Canada. When one's neighbour takes their hard-earned dollar and enhances their life through the addition of wifi, it then becomes unfair that the other neighbour has to live a less enriched life in the shadow of such disgusting capitalist gains. So to ensure that this less fortunate neighbour can have access to such a standard of living without having to go through the extra trouble of picking up a couple extra shifts to pay for the wifi, a portion of the neighbours wifi wealth is appropriated by the wifi "have not" thus providing benefit for both, at the expense of only one. It's a beautiful thing.Hedley wrote:steal your neighbour's wifi

Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
I am humbled and chastised by your "have not wifi" argument.
I will break off a car antenna in the parking lot at lunchtime and whip myself in exculpation. I vow that going forward from this day, nay this hour, I will rid myself of my disgusting, capitalist, bourgeous imperialist urges.

I am saddened that your car is old enough, Beef, to actually have an external car antenna.
If that isn't a damning indictment of our rotten capitalist system, I don't know what is!
PS I ain't giving up boobies.

My guess would be a gun registry.Shiny Side Up wrote:What do we have to show for it?now we at least have something to show for the money spent on the gun registry.
I think you missed the very first sentence of my post Hedley, which was:Hedley wrote:That's an exceedingly odd argument. Your logic is presumably, that it's ok to waste billions of dollars of the taxpayers' money because of the expense of the G20 summit?
Do I think G20 summits are necessary? Yes.Rockie wrote:I'd rather it was spent on hospitals and schools too, but it wasn't and unfortunately we can't un-spend it.
Do I think G20 summits produce anything worth meeting for? If only that were true.
Do I think G20 summits need to cost $1 billion dollars to host even if they produced anything worthwhile? What do you think?
My point Hedley is that it isn't the money you guys are so worked up over with the gun registry otherwise you wouldn't be so keen to toss it out the door. It's the very existence of the registry that offends you so much even if it only cost one dollar.
Plus in your case if it was anybody's idea from somebody left of you in their politics it must be an evil leftie conspiracy to take over the world.

Rockie - It's always been a complete waste, and every single dollar spent on it continues to be a complete waste.
Name one example of a crime that has been prevented by the long gun registry.

If the crime was prevented it didn't occur did it? I would have to research for a very long time to come up with a real crime that didn't occur.

No, if some crimes had been prevented by the LGR then it would be plastered all over by those supporting the LGR.
as an examle of my thought process...
Acts of terrorism have been prevented by laws enacted to counter terrorism. The act of terrorism did not happen, but were still prevented.
Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
I would like to digress..
Rockie:
Which brings me to my digression, as the poster before mentioned terrorism.
We waste millions (billions??) on preventing terrorism. We have people touching other people in places that should not be touched without buying them dinner and wine first, and scanners that leave nothing to the imagination. And we still have terrorism..Not good. Money spent that cannot be unspent, and no real results ...so....here is my money saving plan.
Make terrorism in Canada legal..Yep...legal..Then ,as it is definitely related to transportation, let TC license and manage it...It would end terrorism right now. First of all, non-compliance issues would not have to go through the courts, and would not have to be up to criminal standards as they could use TC's method of administrative action and heresay evidence against them...And unlike the criminal system, once TC gets hold of you and does not like you it is forever.,,better than the courts.
Now, in wanting to be a terrorist one would have to join an approved terrorist organization, and have a functioning SMS program...What suicide bomber could get their SMS approved? proper training would be mandatory , of course, and not from some foreign state such as Pakistan, Isreal, or the US. to obtain a class four terrorist instructor rating would require a non-simulated suicide bomb demonstration. Operatons specs would have to be followed
to the letter...No need for scanners, or touchies.
So, in a very positive light, we could save a whole bunch of money and rid Canada of terrorism...After all, TC has pretty much stamped out general aviation in Canada, and this would give them a new mandate where the could once again preach safety and get bigger budgets.
And while I am on a digression, Hedley, would it be possible for you to have somebody video your self whipping your self so we may all enjoy...I mean learn the lesson.
Rockie:

Ask the folks at TC enforcement for help. They do this all the time, and actually violate people for it, or at least destroy their careers in aviation.

The idea of a terrorist training camp having to apply for a FTU OC has a certain bit of justice to it. If someone actually managed to get any terrorism done fully according to TC's rules, one might actually applaud their herculean effort to do so.

It sounds more very capitalist, from a very capitalist country, where people grab TV sets from the store whenever the power goes off...
Commies were more honest...

Actually, he should scrap the airport security agency, and would get a majority government right away, and save a lot more...

Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
Nowhere is there a better example of the failure of the long gun registry than the attempted mass shooting at Dawson College by Kimveer Gill. This guy jumped through all the hoops and obtained his weapons, then went about his work. The toll would have been out of sight if it wasn't for the work of one Montreal cop who heard gunshots, jumped out of his cruiser, called for back-up then went after the sob and shot him.
Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
Considering the accuracy of the database, if the LGR GENERATED $1B it would still be worthless.
Frankly, I want Garry B's Bill C-300 passed.
I read it line by line. It was brilliant. At addressed all the programs failings and kept those aspects that might actually work towards public safety.
It was shot down because the Mark Hollands of the world wet themselves at the thought that thier 70 year old neighbour might actually take their legally owned and stored firearms to a range approved for thier use. Horrors.

Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try
One particular activity that occupies a lot of police time is domestic disturbance calls. The gun registry is consulted each and every time because what it reveals changes the way the call is responded to. How many domestic calls have been prevented from spinning out of control because of the different response? Who knows? I do know that the police officers I know are glad it's there because it gives them knowledge they wouldn't normally have.
Cue the police state hysteria...
Registering is at most an inconvenience that people have no issue with when it comes to their cars. The outrage is childish.

So it could be zero? Who knows?Rockie wrote: How many domestic calls have been prevented from spinning out of control because of the different response? Who knows?
So is providing a DNA sample. Perhaps that is the next registry we need.Rockie wrote:Registering is at most an inconvenience
