Cheapest float rating school in Southern Ontario/Vancouver ?
Who is offering the cheapest float training school in Southern Ontario or Vancouver??
or
any good float training school for its cost??
I know I should always look for the cheapest stuff, but I just want the rating and that's it.
Also, I believe float rating cost changes month to month.
(please correct me if I'm wrong)
Can anyone tell me which month is usually the cheapest month?
Any information on getting float rating would be very appreciated.
Thanks
PS: If anyone is also thinking about getting a float rating, please PM me.
We can probably work something out with the operator, if we go as a group.

The question is why do you want a float rating? If it's to get a job flying floats, the rating won't get you a job and it would be pretty dumb to be flying floats with marginal training. If you just want "sea" printed on your license, than you're wasting a lot of money. If you want the rating so you can fly your own float plane, get an experienced float driver to teach you on your airplane.

You mean that there's something wrong with me wanting a float rating just so I can have "SMELS" written on my licence??!?! (it is too often an accurate description of me!)Bede wrote:The question is why do you want a float rating? Well there is other reasons. If you do have some disposable cash I would say that learning a float rating is also a lot of fun. Even if I was never to have used mine again afterwards I wouldn't have regretted spending the money on it (but since I do use it, it makes it that much more sweeter. The question is why do you want a float rating?

I ended up doing my rating at Air Hart in Kelowna, they were not the cheapest but Dave and his wife run a great outfit, great planes and great instruction. It was around $2200 all finished. I have only seen 1 place in northern BC that was offering a seasonal rate of 1400 but that ended in march. Good Luck

Redhawkdown, you need to find the best training, not the cheapest.
The sea plane rating is far to easy to get now, without trying to find the cheapest....so look for the best.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Fort Langley Air is the only place I know of in Vancouver. http://www.fortlangleyair.com/training.htm I did mine there a few years ago. Great people, great plane, excellent options for lakes/rivers/ocean training.

I did my floats in sarnia onatrio on their 172. price was right, and the instructor has a few thousand hours on floats. plus there are lots of great little islands to go beach at and do the bikini patrol.

If you don't mind doing the Bikini Patrol in Florida and getting it put on a US Certificate, Jack Brown's Seaplane Base in Winterhaven offers the rating for $1200.

I haven't been there myself but I've heard rave reviews from a few who've done this, mostly as a flying activity on their vacation in Florida, and some who've just went for the "patrol". They have some cubs on floats if I remember, though I think (and I could be wrong, trying to remember names) one of the fellows there is reccomended if one is needing to get some help converting to a Lake amphibian.Panama Jack wrote:If you don't mind doing the Bikini Patrol in Florida and getting it put on a US Certificate, Jack Brown's Seaplane Base in Winterhaven offers the rating for $1200.
