Air Ivanhoe

Post by modi13 »

Job Description:
Looking for a low time (possibly private or commercial) pilot...A perfect summer job for a low hour pilot looking to gain some experience around planes. From last season, the candidate should expect to recieve about 250 dual hours on a beaver during the summer / fall season.
This isn't even a carrot, it's just absurd. Not only are they suggesting that their dockhands can log time from the right seat of a Beaver, they're saying they can do so with only a PPL. I would love to see the expression on the TC inspector's face when they get that logbook with an application for an ATPL.

They said 250 hours of dual time, they never said it can be logged.

I thought the advert was very well written. Perfect place for someone considering a career in aviation before a big investment is made. The job is for a dockhand that is looking for some experience working in a busy floatplane environment. Here's a chance to see how a floatplane is handled, loaded and operated with a chance to ask many questions from those who actually do it instead of post on here.

I think this sounds like an excellent place to start. They can even offer "references" from last season! Did I read that right? 12 bucks an hour plus free room is certainly a decent starting wage.

3700.00 and year end bonus? YEH, I've heard that before." Sorry Joe but it was a slow year and I won't be able to pay that bonus because you put a hole in my float". If you take the job ask for more money and tell them keep the bonus. Sounds like it could be a good starter job.

I'm gonna chime in on this one.. George is one hell of a good guy. Honest to a fault and super straightforward. There is ALWAYS an end of the year bonus, so long as you stay for the season. Theres no funny business. The flying is good, the airplanes are well maintained, the lodge staff are fantastic. You WILL have a lot of good times and memories. All of you armchair quarterbacks need to settle down. The dual cant be logged, but its good experience.

I flew for Georges father and knew George when he was just a kid.

His father was one of the best people I ever worked for and I believe his son is the same type of person.

Glad to see you guys chiming in on this one. Not EVERY job posting is BAD, so it's good to see people who have experience quash the drivel of the "whiners" who complain about EEEEEEEEE-EEEverything.

So the dual time you receive on the Beaver can't go towards anything? This company sounds very good for a first job but if it doesn't lead to a flying position or experience I don't understand how it would progress your career. I understand you will learn tons being around the aircraft and going up on flights but wouldn't you have to work the dock somewhere else after just to get the time requirements most guys want?

Of course it goes towards something, it is company training to allow you to be able to fly their airplanes.

I'm usually a person who bashes dock jobs but I've got to give props to the forthrightness of this ad. Lots of worse ways to spend a summer and you know what you are going there for.

If I was young and single I'd be all over this.

The ones who don't like the ad don't need to apply. The position must be filled by now.

In my previous reply about the bonus, I have seen it time and time again, This is not a personal attack on Air Ivanhoe, from the other posts it sure seems he has a well run operation. It's just when you get bit once or twice it's hard to stay positive when you see these kinds of ads. George, I wish you well and have a good summer. DHCdriver.

FlyHigh13 have you bothered to read the previous posts. It is stated that the person who did the job last season is now flying. I guess it counts for something. I know personally the person who did the job last season and she ended up with over a hundred hours on the Beaver which is why she is flying this summer. Maybe it can't be logged but she still knows how to fly a Beaver. Also am good friends with the 2 who flew the Beavers there last summer and both have moved on the much greater jobs and have nothing but good things to say about the operation.

I agree with what has already been posted here. If I was young looking for work, I would be all over this job opportunity.

Your sure a classic Philly! This is the great thing about having this forum, so people can post there opinions. The minute something is said that you don't agree with we are either clueless or know nothing about it. I am not trying to shitbag Air Ivanhoe, I just don't agree with a bonus as I already stated. I've spend 13 years in the bush so I have alittle knowhow of how it's works and how guys like you operate. I left the float world to go fly 1900's and Saab's in Eastern Ontario in the early 90's because I didn't agree with certain things in the float flying business, so I seem to think that I know what I'm talking about. Good luck to ya Phillyfan. Think positive you will feel better at the end of the day.

P.S. Say hi to your new guy for me, I hope he's learning lots.

DHC, if you didn't want to shitbag Air Ivanhoe why did you post that bullshit on a thread called "Air Ivanhoe". Start another thread called "I didn't live up to the agreement at another float base and I didn't get the bonus".

Here are my replys to this post.

Now tell me where did I shitbagged this company, the first comment may of seemed a little cheeky, but in no way did I call this mans company down. I just stated that ask for more money instead of a bonus. I've seen this happen before.

Its seems to me you are good friends with the above, and you are insulted by my comments. Next time I have an opinion I will PM you two F.......ers and get your approval. :orcass: George if your reading this, I don't know you but I apologize if your taking this the wrong way. Best of luck this summer George. NWONT and Phillyfan :butthead:

I never heard of Air Ivanhoe before I saw this job ad. I've never met anyone connected with this operation. The ad was straight forward and honest, clearly stating what can be expected. In a matter of minutes, in true Avcanada mindset, everybody start slinging shit at this guy because he hadn't laid out a path to an Airbus job at Aircanada. I've lost count of the threads on here that have asked "how do I get a start in aviation?" This man just held out a golden opportunity to do just that and look what happened. Why would anyone look for quality people on this site?
