The Ontario Provincial Police in Kawartha Lakes is investigating the death of a pilot north of Lindsay.
Police were called to West Bay, on Balsam Lake, at about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday. A single-engine float plane was found upside-down in the water, about 500 metres from the shoreline.
The body of a man, who was the only person in the aircraft, was recovered from the plane.
The name of the man is not being released until his next of kin has been notified, police said in a press release.

ENNISMORE -Hugh McCullough built a thriving business and a solid relationship with the people who worked for him.
On Thursday, those people joined his family in remembering the "great guy and family man" who died in Wednesday's storm when his single-engine plane flipped in the wind.
Mr. McCullough, 67, an Ennismore resident, was the owner of Mid-West Traffic Inc., said general manager Carla Thompson.
"He had stepped away more over the past few years," Thompson said.
"He was spending about six months a year in Florida. We used to joke that he was semiretired but he was always involved in some way."
Mr. McCullough is survived by two daughters, Michelle and Denise, and partner Gloria Conlin, Thompson said. He had three grandchildren.
He died when a gust of high wind flipped his float plane, which was on the water in West Bay on Balsam Lake near Coboconk, during a major storm Wednesday afternoon, City of Kawartha Lakes OPP reported.
"It's very somber here today," Thompson said from Mid-West's Peterborough offices.
Closing down, even for a day, wouldn't have been what Mr. McCullough would have wanted, she said. "He cared about this company and these people, and this community."
Mid-West Traffic is an air and land freight company. She said many employees, herself included, have been with the company for decades.
"We're very close-knit, and (Mr. McCullough) was the reason for that," she said. "He was a great guy. He enjoyed life to the fullest."
The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m., leaving only the plane's pontoons visible about 500 metres from shore. Several neighbours dove into the water to try to effect a rescue, but were unsuccessful. Mr. McCullough was pronounced deal later that evening. The area OPP and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are investigating the incident, OPP report. Funeral arrangements for Mr. McCullough have not been finalizd.
