Mach 4 Supersonic Bizjet To Be Revealed at Paris Show
On Monday at the Paris Air Show, HyperMach Aerospace Industries plans to unveil a “next generation” supersonic business jet (SSBJ) that can fly from Paris to New York in 1 hour 45 minutes. Given prevailing westerly winds on this 4,000-nm trip, this puts the cruising speed of the HyperMach aircraft in the neighborhood of a blistering Mach 4.0, well over double the top speeds of the proposed SSBJ designs in development at Aerion Mach 1.6 and Supersonic Aerospace International Mach 1.8.
In a press invite for its announcement next week, HyperMach also said its SSBJ could fly around the world in as little as five hours, which is just 48 minutes longer than it would take for the Aerion SSBJ to fly from Paris to New York at Mach 1.6. A HyperMach spokeswoman declined to reveal more details about the program, but company chairman and CEO Richard Lugg’s background might provide more clues about the SSBJ, especially its powerplants. Specifically, Lugg is also chairman and CEO of Portland, Maine-based SonicBlue Aerospace, a company “specializing in revolutionary hybrid turbine and scramjet...propulsion systems,” suggesting that this SSBJ will employ advanced technologies heretofore the preserve of the defense industry.

They have just recently applied for a patent on their design if you want to have a preview. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/20110133021.pdf

It looks like something out of Thunderbirds.

I am reminded of the quote from this quote:
"You've never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3."

What's with the black censored bars?
She’s built like a Steakhouse, but she handles like a Bistro.

When it was asked before about the blackout, no response... That was last year.

I think the patent is aimed at reducing shock wave intensity with two waves that cancel ... to allow over land flight?
There does not seem to be much in the patent about fuel effeciency or engines etc. unless the double shock wave somehow reduces drag.
Looks cool though, but can you imagine the development costs .. yikes.

Concorde was decommissioned because of high fuel costs - 1/4 the load of a 747, and 4x the fuel burn. I wonder what the burn will be on this piece of pie-in-the-sky, and who will be able to afford to fly in it?
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Brilliant show.
Re: Mach 4 Supersonic Bizjet To Be Revealed at Paris Show
They should be much more fuel efficient then current aircraft engines, when they are in the zone... The zone being something higher then mach. Largely due to the fact their efficiency comes from the high compression achieved due to the speed they are going. Below that they will be a fuel burning pig. Would like to know how they are going to handle the low speed (<mach 1) range during landing/takeoff. Especially a missed approach.

this thing must actually be in production. While I just heard about it last week, this week we have already recieved three resumes from recent confedration college grads who are claiming PIC time on type.

Hehe... Must be a new 'accelerated' program.
