You should not listen to argument radio.
Next week they will be saying there is a pilot glut.
Keep in mind that the 680 traffic spotter aircraft used to be hangered in the same building as three flight schools at czbb.
Maybe one of the instructors was given the newscrew a sales pitch with excessive use of lube

Costas went to my high school, graduated when I was a freshman. I wonder how much Embry-Riddle paid for that shameless plug of a story?

The pilot shortage, well I think it is true and isnt true..

If you want to do that vanilla, standard issue airlines thing then no, there is no shortage, you will have to compete with 95% of the newly minted CPLs and all those guys have the same experience levels and do the same type of flying, its just a matter of hours.

If you can think outside of the box there are high paying areas of aviation that have real shortages, some overseas, some in the open areas of the country, etc.

I really get sick of hearing folks complain about traveling all the time and having a odd schedule, ITS AVIATION, of course you are going to travel, people are not going to pay you to do circuits at your choice of airports. I got into this for the travel and not for the airline version of it so for me the travel is a bonus.

There will always be a shortage of good people, meoducure people are in abundance, the more successful people you meet the more you learn that successful people will do well in whatever they decide to do, complainers will complain in any profession they choose and so on.

That's weird. My calculations were 474,296, for an average recruitment of 23,715 pilots per year. I also got almost 10% of the Asia-Pacific demand coming from that region, with the rest coming from the North American market to fill the A-P demand.

I wonder why Boeing's calculations were so far out?

I think that the general thought here is incorrect. The phraseology should read "coming shortage of highly skilled workers willing to fill their predecessors positions for a lower comparative wage and fewer retirement benefits". On that note, the same 'shortage' is on its way for engineers, mid-level managers, and many others.
