Reg's Question...
A C of A provisional is issued for an aircraft with a provisional type certificate.
A Provisional registration is for importing an unregistered aircraft to Canada of for ferrying an unregistered aircraft within Canada.
So would an aircraft with a C of A provisional usually be for an aircraft with a temporary registration?
And why wouldnt an aircraft with a provisional type certificate be issued a flight permit -experimental rather than a C of A provisional?

Re: Reg's Question...
From CAR 507:
"Provisional" type certificates are temporary and generally have many restrictions. They are often used as an interim flight authority during certification of the aircraft. They give some easement to the OEM in the months leading up to final issue of the type certificate and first delivery.
It's not uncommon for aircraft under a provisional type certificate to have a temporary registration. It might just be flown to a paint shop in a different town or to some operator's facility for a demo.
So...no. Not unless the airplane is part of some testing. An experimental flight permit is issued for any aircraft, excluding aircraft that are operated under a special certificate of airworthiness in the owner-maintenance or amateur-built classification, which is manufactured for, or engaged in, aeronautical research and development, or for showing compliance with airworthiness standards.

Re: Reg's Question...
What then do they mean by "or for showing compliance with airworthiness standards?" isnt that for test flying an aircraft during the certification process?
Re: Reg's Question...
Yes. But it can also mean while certifying a modification.
