Don't read anything into this...
I'm just curious what is going on with the LCC that was announced in the spring time. I'm not trying to start anything. I just haven't heard anything about it over the noise of the mandatory retirement debates.
Re: Don't read anything into this...
So far there is no LCC. The F/A's have a tenative agreement (hasn't been voted on yet) and it states that any LCC will be crewed with outside F/A's at lower pay. I believe they negotiated the right to represent those F/A's but in reality there is nothing they can do to stop it anyway.
The pilots are the only ones that have protection built into their contract with regards to who must fly all AC planes. As such that will be the biggest stumbling block. There is no reason to pay the pilots less as the more seats you put in the plane the more efficent the pilots become. For example if you have a total pilot cost of $300 hr and an aircraft with 200 seats it works out to $1.50 per pax. Add another hundred seats and it drops to $1.00 per pax. The more pax they stuff in, the more efficent we become.
I have no idea what other agreements have been made with other groups but as I mentioned there is nothing they can do about it anyway. No other group has any scope protection that I know of.
