Lets ban everything entertaining which has ever killed.
no sig because apparently quoting people in context is offensive to them.
Re: Lets ban everything entertaining which has ever killed.
Weak reporting. Premise is to ban airshows based on a crash at an air race?
You can interpret that however you would like.

The CBC are using their annual 1.1 Billion dollars wisely again.
Sure, ban the second most attended event in North America .... automotive racing is number 1.
I can imagine the conversation around the News Director's office at the morning scrum as to who will cover what stories for the day's production run for the major newscast ........ So, is it true this .... waddyacallit again ... Pee 51 ... what .... Mustang? Probably killed people before in that un-needed war against the supporters of Adolf Hitler..... he only attacked us because he was scared ... this a WW2 warplane huh? And .... lets see, they are expensive? Flown by men. Men who are old and rich? ... and white? Well there's the angle for this story. This is a playboy rich white guy that smashes into a crowd while he thrill seeks ..... kills and horribly injures a bunch of people......And you say that people attend these Air Shows in huge crowds .... what kind of people? Lets look at the pictures from Associated Press .... hum, I don't see a person of colour in anyof those shots .... it could have been a Tea Party Rally. Explore that. How many in the crowd are Republican Tea Party types?
I'll bet we can turn this into a 7 minute special.... let's do a web survey to see how many are in favour of banning these kind of things that are just rich man's games .... explore the culture struggle of this story .... you know .... young kid filled with passion to fly airplanes but can't due to lack of economic opprtunity .... class repression that can only be cured by having everyone take flying lessons using money confiscated from large corporations run by greed-driven CEO's .... airlines especially. Everybody knows with the stupidly high costs of tickets, they are just rolling in money ..... redistribute it.
So ....everybody have the battery packs charged? Have you kissed the feet of the statue of Pierre Trudeau that's in the lobby? Right then ... off you go to your work stations .... oh, right .... how could I have forgotten? Its coffee break time ... well, see 'yas back here in an hour or two then.

Wow first the swissair fiasco and now this. I'm loosing a lot of respect for CBC. Did the news director change recently? Seems they need to change their name to CNN Canada.

Sanjet .... the CBC is much, much closer in ideology to MSNBC with Rachel Madcow, Chris (Thrill Up My Leg) Mathews, and until recently Keith Blubberman. Even CNN founded by Ted Turner .... husband of "Hanoi Jane" Fonda is too conservative because they don't advocate for "The little man" and are too fact oriented. Its all about class struggle and environmentalism.

At least in the vote results, 78% voted no, so not everybody buys into CBC's wisdom.

Oh that survey result will be meaningless to them .... it is only a rough guide as to how ferociously they should persue the story and how many days they will run it before putting it the library of file footage to drag out the next time someone reports a gritty main landing gear bearing.

Am I missing something here? The link is to a CBC public opinion poll on banning air shows not an article condemning them! Some of you have such a hatred towards the CBC that it makes basic comprehension difficult. The preamble contains only facts not opinion. The survey shows that the overwhelming majority feel there is no need to ban air shows. That's it, that's all; no conspiracy theories afoot here, just a simple survey to gauge public opinion.

Simple .... I know them based upon living with one of their news writers for 3 years and them coming over to my place for suppers, parties, beer guzzling, etc. Then there were the staff parties .... when you get 30 or more of them in a room with a bunch of free booze paid for by the taxpayer, you get to understand their intrinsic basic agenda pretty easily.

Re: Lets ban everything entertaining which has ever killed.
I figure that airshows will not be banned because they killed a few people. Remember, we could not even get a gun registry to stay
Success in life is when the cognac that you drink is older than the women you drink it with.
Re: Lets ban everything entertaining which has ever killed.
On the subject of banning things, I have to wonder how many people in the United States were maimed or killed the same day by drivers who were distracted using a cell phone? It just is not news. The media hypes it up and the lynch mobs pick up their figurative pitchforks and howl for blood......or less of it I suppose.
It is a most interesting connection to compare it to the long gun registry?

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
Re: Lets ban everything entertaining which has ever killed.
The CBC isn't expressing any opinion on this whatsoever, they're asking for yours.
Typically the CBC haters completely miss the point.
Foggy.
Let it go. That kind of irrational hatred is unhealthy.

Rockie understands a "leading" question. He knows that when you ask leading questions when polling you get the answer you wanted to get. A rather famous leading question is...So Rockie when did you quit beating your wife??
Re: Lets ban everything entertaining which has ever killed.
I agree that's a leading question, and the equivalent in this case would be "When should airshows be banned?". However that wasn't the question was it?robertsailor1 wrote:Rockie understands a "leading" question. He knows that when you ask leading questions when polling you get the answer you wanted to get. The question was "Should airshows be banned?" which doesn't lead anybody anywhere. It's a very simple straight forward question requiring an equally simple "yes" or "no" answer. All you have to do is click "no" if you disagree and your opinion will be included in the survey.
No need to waste those precious few brain cells worrying about a left wing conspiracy surrounding a simple question. Just click "yes" or "no".

Here's the thing. Asking "should airshows be banned" is a stupid question, but that's all it is. It isn't proof positive that the CBC is evil. It isn't evidence of a left-wing conspiracy to eradicate all fun from our lives.
It's just a stupid question that costs nothing whether you answer it or not.
I've said it many times before and it's just as applicable to this, a little perspective goes a long way.

It cost the taxpayer $1.1 BILLION DOLLARS. Nothing to you, a big pile o' dough to me.It's just a stupid question that costs nothing

Rockie sometimes your quite the troll.
I agree with you that it was a stupid question and CBC has a world class record of asking stupid questions.
I also agree with the other poster than a Billion dollars is far too much for the benefit we receive from supporting CBC. Years ago it was different as our communication across Canada was lacking but these days we have muliti sources for good news as well as entertainment.. its just more money down a big hole at CBC. Take the money and use it to help the real needy people and let the CBC and their high paid help stand on their own two feet and see if their abilities are actually worth something. If there are millions of people with your view then there is nothing to fear.

Oh, come on, it's not real money, it's the taxpayer’s money.

I said it was a stupid question. I did not say the CBC had a world class record of asking stupid questions. For that you would have to listen to Bill O'Reilly. Please don't put words in my mouth.
The vast majority of what the CBC does in my opinion is what this country needs. The latest case in point is the Swissair crash investigation. I don't see any other news agency questioning the results, do you? It may in fact turn out to be nothing, but these questions need to be asked when there is sufficient reason to ask them and I haven't seen anybody else do it.
Your condemnation of the network based on this one stupid reason just reveals your own limited scope. You, Jake, Foggy and many others ignore the reality in favour of your own bias which is, forgive me, not very bright. I will say though that in Jake's case I've seen over the last several years real evidence of a very sharp intellect that I think is wasted on ideology. Foggy...not so much. You, I don't know enough about but early returns aren't encouraging.
Open up your minds just a little.
