I am a Apple guy and have really enjoyed their Jobs era products.

Love or hate him, he changed modern computing by pushing the envelope and then did the same thing to music players, the music industry, the animation industry, and the cell phone industry.

Apple could never have claimed to invent any of the above, but certainly in the marketing of those products or services to appeal to the masses they've been successful.

More important than innovation was the persistence of developing products that weren't initially successful, like the Newton that evolved in principle to the iPhone and iPad, and the little known cloud computing service introduced in 1999 as iTools that has always been available as that or Mac.com or .Mac or MobileMe before being re released this month as iCloud.

Godspeed Steve Jobs. You brought the future a little sooner and brighter for all of us.

I am not an Apple guy, but Steve Jobs was incredible how he could expertly blend technology and marketing. Shoulda got a Nobel prize instead of Obama, IMHO.

He was actually fired from Apple (!) many years ago, and came back again when the company was in sad shape. Single-handedly turned it around, into the amazing success it is today.

I'm sure it wasn't very pleasant working for someone like him, but he sure made his mark!

He was quite the guy. More deserving of a state funeral than some I could mention.

Doubly sad news for me since he was a compatriot of mine, his father hailing from a town in Syria just a few dozen kms from mine. Its like hearing about the death of a relative.

RIP Steve. That man changed the way we interact and communicate for the good and bad. His footprint will be felt for generations. Truly, a Henry Ford of our time.

He had an incredible sense of design, and a perfect understanding of what the end-user experience should be. He also made computers less intimidating for a lot of people - he was able to make the user interface intuitive and easy. He will be missed.

You nailed it right there. Adding or removing programs from a mac vs a PC, for example.

The team ethos of Apple really demonstrated that true understanding of consumer needs before we did.

Apparently Steve Jobs never met his birth father.

I think Steve Jobs could be more appropriately described as Californian, as he was born in San Franciso, worked in Curpertino, and died in Palo Alto. All of the products under Jobs were 'Designed by Apple in California'.

Barack Obama was abandoned by his foreign student father as well but he was described as muslim, kenyan, black, his allegiance was questioned, his religion, where he grew up, even where he was born. But Kenyans still claim him and many Americans would rather not. If hes African-American as he is described then Steve Jobs is just as much Syrian-American. What side of the hyphen you focus on I guess depends how foregn you look, or if youre running for political office.

And the Gretzky comparasin doesnt quite work cause Ontario is many peoples. Its more like if you and his father came from Dene reserves 35 km apart would be the equivelent.

Steve Jobs is ... Syrian-American
Are you for real?! I have ancestors from Scotland, but I'm sure not "Scottish-Canadian", whatever that is. Try not to make Steve Jobs death about you.

So because some people who have questionable critical thinking skills are unsure of his place of birth, are islamophobic, and Republican, we should look at the racial, ethnic, and religious origins of everyone? How many Democrats have questioned his allegiance, religion, or place of birth?

None, because they didn't have a BS agenda related to where his ancestors were from. Unlike you and several nutcase Republicans.

Time to upgrade.

http://www.ubuntu.com/

Linux is the future folks.

Jobs will be remembered like Henry Ford. Pretty revolutionary for the time, but eventually the company will get its butt kicked by something better.

Now Richard Stallman... when he goes, it'll be like Jesus died.

I also have an aunt named Bernice, your aunt Bernice was left handed, Steve Jobs was left handed, Steve Jobs' biological father was Syrian, Syrian is sort of like Lebanese, Azimuth is Lebanese. We're like cousins, so we could get married in a couple US states.

Oh no no one does that, especially on AvCanada... And thats not what Im saying at all. But when you come from an isolated mountain range in the middle of nowhere then yes I will take notice when someone else from there passes away. Its not like were both from the rockies, its a very small geographic area that straddles the Syrian Lebanese border.
The Anti-Lebanon mountains is the Western name for the Eastern Lebanon Mountain Range, which are a southwest-northeast-trending mountain range between Syria and Lebanon. The Anti-Lebanon range is approximately 150 km in length.

So when his biological father passes away you can be very sad because he is "from the same place". Jobs was born in and lived his life in the usa, stop trying to make it be more than that, he is not "from there". He is gone and for the technological growth of the world it is a very sad day.
