Aviation Industry & making it better.

Post by FL500 »

Ive been reading through the different posts on here and I started thinking about what if new 200 hr wonders as they are called were to have the opportunity to catch a ride with some of the pros on here that have been apart of the aviation industry for decades and seen it all for the most part? It would give these young pilots a change to see what the industry really is like instead of the perhaps biased view they are given at the FTU. What does everyone here think of something like this? Do you think your individual companies would be fore/against just an idea. Now keeping in mind the economics perhaps this could be done in some way?

Would love to get everyones input.

Not to knock this down FL500 because mentor-ship is a good idea.
But I just don't see this happening unless someone is a pilot operator that can organize this.

I can't do it as I work for a Government Agency and it's staff only.
A flight school in my neighbourhood had a Q&A night for their students a few years ago. They invited myself to speak about seaplane operations, a veteran corporate pilot and an captain from the airlines.

One student showed up.
So we shot the sh!t and had a nice evening. But allot of 200 hour wannabes missed out on some great hanger flying. And a chance to get some solid face to face advice.

Maybe next time

Wow sounds like a great opportunity missed that night not only for the 200 hr wonders but also other pilots. I remember one opportunity when I was working on my MIFR we had a chance to visit the sims at an airline and a chance to get some face time with people in the industry and I had the greatest time and thought it was a wonderful experience. I think it's a chance for pilots just getting into the industry to find out what flying the line is really like.

I think if someone on here would have the ability to arrange something like that it would be a great benefit and I for one would be glad to help anyway possible (weather it be to promote or in other ways) I believe this could only be a benefit to Canadian Aviation and the future of safety.

FlySafe everyone :)

They can still start with some good reading. Versus going directly for a visit that would take some organization and time.
Time which is often missing with people actually working.

What did you have in mind? I dont mind giving out some personal info to help out. Might even be able to make a trip down to a local FTU and ask if they would be able to get involved perhaps promote. This is if there were people on here willing to mentor weather it be online annonymysly or in Person.

Think it could be a good idea if anyone is interested or has more ideas feel free to pm me and maybe something can get happening. The way I look at it is how are the 200 hr wonders supposed to learn if no one is willing to give a nudge in the right direction.

Happy Flying :)

As a soon-to-be 200hr wonder (aiming to be done CPL/instructor rating by April), personally I love the concept of pilot-pilot mentorship. I don't know if we all feel this way, but as far as I'm concerned if somebody has more knowledge/experience in a field/subject in which I want to advance, then I'm interested in keeping my mouth closed and my ears open :)
If any of you are ever in Victoria, please PM me, I would love to meet up.
I also feel lucky to have this website; I can only imagine the advantages I have with this resource, compared to those of you who have been flying since before the technology boom.
