Buttonville Tower/Ground Crew/Instructors Shout Out

Post by niss »

I flew down to Buttonville from Barrie on Saturday and when I got there it was darker quicker than I realised, so instead of trying and potentially busting night with my pax (no night rating) I decided to leave it there and call for a ride.

The Tower allowed my pax and I to come up for a tour and the crew there gave us a ride across the airport for the visit.

I just wanted to thank the tower crew for giving us the tour, the ground crew for taking us, and to the instructors putting up with my questions and even offering to drive me over to the tower. You guys are all awesome and professionals in every sense of the word.

Thanks again!

Niss (C-FUBC)

PS I'll try to go down and get my airplane back soon.

Kudos to you Niss. That couldn't have been an easy decision to make but it was the right one.

It is always nice to have accommodating and friendly people to help out when the chips are down.

Happens to me every year around this time...the clocks change, and you forget how quickly darkness creeps up on you - next thing you know, you're hiking/biking home on some pitch black trail, stumbling over roots, swearing that next time, you'll bring your headlamp!

Good move, Niss! A cab is a hassle, but less so than a violation or ride in a hearse..

Nice to read things like this when it would have been very easy to try to sneak by. Kudos on the safe call.

Also was great of the Tower & ground crew to be so accommodating. Must have been a nice sight from up in the tower looking over the city. :)

Keep Flying Safe

Thanks guys!

It was a bit of a dilemma from my point of view. Had I been by myself, I might have been willing to make a go of it, but I was certainly not going to be risking the welfare of my pax.

The tower crew was great and very informative. It was really cool finding out what we look like to them, why somethings happen or don't, etc. Real eye opener. And I couldn't pick a nicer evening for it. Nice view, a decent amount of a/c movements to watch.

Now how do I get a tour of YYZ? :D

They've been quite good about tours there too....just drive in to the base of the tower as if you're heading for skyservice and call from the phone/intercom at the gate, work load permitting of course. I would go in the morning or late evening.

Just in case anyone was wondering why you shouldn't push in these situations:
