Individual Type Rating

Post by CatInTheHat »

After what period of not doing recurrent training on one of my individual type ratings does doing an initial training course become necessary again?

For instance, lets say that the last recurrent training occurred on Jan 1, 2010, then I never returned to train on that aircraft again. Until what date is doing a recurrent an option? And after what date would I have to do an initial again?

I cannot find reference to that in the CARs. Could someone point me to the regulation where that is found?

Many thanks.

Once your current PPC has lapsed for over two years, you're back to an initial. Within that two year period, all you need is recurrent. So, that would be on the first day of the 36th month from the date of your PPC.

If you have the aircraft Type Rating endorsed on your licence, it is there for life. IE .... B737, MU2, DHC8, etc.

There is no time limit except to meet the other currency requirements and things like an IFR expiry date, night currency, passenger carrying currency, PPC or PCC for commercial operations, etc.

First day of the 37th month, isn't it?

With the most profound respect for my learned peers who have recently posted ... my fellow gentlemen and Knights of The Air ... it is my potentially flawed understanding after multiple reads of the information ..... the original poster wasn't asking about a PPC, he was asking about Individual Aircraft Type Ratings and the period of validity of same.

Some ICAO countries do indeed have currency requirements with respect to the Individual Aircraft Type Rating, Canada does not. Once obtained, it remains on the licence, awaiting validation by the usual methods of number of take-offs and landings under day and night conditions.

There is no regulation or Standard with respect to the validity period. Here is a copy and paste of the applicable legislation ...

Division XI — Aircraft Type Ratings

Blanket and Individual Type Ratings

401.40 The Minister shall endorse the permits and licences specified in the personnel licensing standards with a blanket aircraft type rating or an individual type rating if the applicant for the rating meets the requirements referred to in section 401.06.

Privileges

401.41 The holder of a permit or licence that has been endorsed with a blanket aircraft type rating or an individual type rating may exercise the privileges of the permit or licence in the blanket aircraft type or individual aircraft type for which the permit or licence is endorsed.

You will note the legislation is silent regarding validity .... that means there is no limitation.

I apologize if my response seems a triffle offensive by my having corrected anyone's input based upon their initial education and subsequent day-in, day-out experience in the aviation industry.
