Max Wind youve seen.... (crazy wind in central canada)
There was a low pressure system that passed through Manitoba/Nunavut this week, the one Metar I caught was CYRT 290000z CCA 30036G51kt 0sm -sn +BLSN VV003...... What is the max wind anyone has seen/heard on metar? I remember seeing high 50s out of buttonville during a thunderstorm last summer. Anyone?

Claresholm AB airport wind speed reported gusts of 69 knts (128km/h) on Sunday Nov. 27th. That's the fastest I've seen.

I'm sure it was windy, but seriously guys..... Time to let it go....
If you get that excited over wind then you should pack up and move to St. John's.

Greenwood, NS during a hurricane in the mid '50s..135 kts...and we had to sit in that old rickety control tower just in case..of what we could not figure out. The glass was bending and we were hiding under the consoles with mattress' for protection.

I can believe it. I landed there one winter night some years ago, it was 290/50G67. Another day on approach on 11 - at 3000' indicating 140kt - we had a g/s on the Loran of 58kt. The strange thing was, it was a smooth as silk. Below 3000' it was another story entirely.84 kts. Hurricane Igor YYT a few years ago.

Yeah i had the opportunity to talk a walk out in the CYRT 0SM G56 VV000 the other day. Fastest Ive ever been in, few more knots and it would have been Category 1 hurricane winds.

90 mph at 1000 feet, 1982, Astoria, Oregon. It was only about a steady 30 when we took off from Seaside to go up the few miles to get fuel. When we got there, it was 90 in the circuit and semi's were blowing over on the big highrise bridge across the Columbia. Started out on final for the south, ended up blowing around 90 degrees and landing across that runway. Only used half the width.

50 gusting to 70 on the surface at the Lethbridge airport. Clear day, no storms, just very windy due to chinook conditions. There is a channeling effect through the Crowsnest Pass which results is some insane, sustained wind speeds.

Re: Max Wind youve seen.... (crazy wind in central canada)
The worst I have ever experienced personally was at CYQY (Sydney, NS) when a friend and I
were ferrying a Piper Archer and were getting fuel in 42kts G 49 in January. We were each on
the end of a wing trying to hold it a little more still while they fueled it.
Later on the trip had a 92kt headwind at 3000' departing Fredricton, NB needless to say we diverted... lol
