I'll +1 for Great Hobbies. I've spent enough on r/c planes by now I could have had one I could sit in and fly no doubt!
Are you looking to get into R/C? or just put a kit together? Sig kits are very nice kits to build. If you and your son want to learn to fly, be sure to check out www.maac.ca and find a local club to get help to learn how to fly! Full scale pilots make some of the worst r/c pilots to teach! Someone in the local club would probably be more than willing to help during your build if you have any questions.
Have fun!

Don't forget balsa gliders. A sheet of 1/16" balsa wood, a knife, a bottle of glue and a block of modeling clay can go a long way. This way you can leave the tissue covering and power trimming for sometime later.
Of course, if all your kid's friends get interested in these models you can also crank out kits for these things like nobody's business:

I had designed this thing for a class to build a number of years ago and it's a great way for anyone to get started.
