What do you mean there are "no jobs"?
According to what I've seen on the internet the last few weeks:
- WestJet is hiring
- Jetsgo is hiring
- Platinum Jet Air is hiring
- Central Mountain Air is hiring
- Little Red Air Service is hiring
- Lockhart Air is hiring . . . . .
Amongst others. Time to turn of Seinfeld and start surfing the internet.
P.S. Air Canada and Jazz are NOT hiring

Yes, if you know at least thee people there who will recommend you- WestJet is hiring
Yes, if you have $30 000 kicking around- Jetsgo is hiring
Yes, if you have 1500 hours, an ATPL, and a Fokker 100 PPC- Platinum Jet Air is hiring
Yes, the guys and gals they laid off last week- Central Mountain Air is hiring
Yes, mechanics- Little Red Air Service is hiring
Yes, with 1500 hours and 500 multi- Lockhart Air is hiring
That does not help the poor shmucks who believed their flight schools when they were told they were being trained to become airline pilots.
Though i agree with panama on one point, if you want sympathy, it is in the dictionary between shit and syphilis. One should base ones education on what is in demand
Disclaimer: The above is a satire on the current state of affairs. I got my job with less than 10 hours of multi time by pounding doors and hunting down chief pilots.

Ahramin, I wanna strangle you...
Here I am working soundly at my desk, when a scream comes from a big leather chair in the room next to me: "get on avcanada and give that dumb shite Ahramin a piece of your mind for me"...so I have to stop what I am doing and come look at your squirrly post. and wonder...WTF? What's wrong with you, it's called "there are jobs for qualified people". Just like there's a fast growing underground organ harvesting company that you'd be perfect for.
Sorry buddy, that one came from the top, you really must be stupid if my company is willing to waste resources just to have me yell at you.

What's this, you need to meet certain qualifications?!?!?!? I've heard in the past that for certain companies being a white anglosaxon male was a disadvantage, and Canadian wanted a B.S. degree. Wasn't saying that the pickings were generous-- but they exist. When all you have is lemons, learn to make lemonade.
Little Red Air Service is only hiring mechanics? That is not what I see on the web, unless you are being facetious. With movement here, somewhere there are bag throwers being hired.
B.T.W., lets clarify it now. Does JetsGo really require you to produce 300 x $100 bills, or is it a bond you sign like a lot of other companies?
Hey, the Canadian Armed Forces are hiring too-- and Boot Camp builds character!

Whahahahaha
Your boss sounds like my kind of guy. Delegation seems to be a lost art these days but even i never thought of delegating an ass chewing. Where are you guys?
I DID post a disclaimer. I even BOLDED (is that a word?) it. Perhaps your leather chairs are so comfortable you do not sit up far enough to read the bottom of the posts? Anyway i will say it again:
IT WAS A SATIRICAL and i am sorry i interrupted your vital work, i was only trying to inject a little humour into someone's day. I am just finishing a week of days off and AM going a little squirrly here. Shouldn't you be out flying or something?
Is little red hiring pilots? Standard 2 weeks dispatching, 1 week flying, 1 week off kinda thing? Damn CAL, get your arse out of bed and go camp on Brian's front doorstep.
From what i hear (from a guy who has a friend who is working at Jetsgo) Jetsgo requires $30k CASH to pay for your training. This money is then paid back to you over a few years. Anyone have more concrete info on this?
Now, at the risk of starting a long and ugly debate, i hope you will admit that in the majority of cases demanding 500 hours of multi time to fly a seneca, 310, or caravan (caravan?) has far more to do with cutting down the number of resumes to be looked at than through any qualification or safety issue. If there were NO 500 hour multi time pilots applying for the job would the company:
A) Pay for someone to build up 500 hours of multi time for them to be qualified,
B) Hire the guy with 1000 hours PIC but 10 hours multi that had applied, train him on the aircraft and put him to work, or
C) keep the airplane on the ground, lose money, and not hire anyone until someone qualified came along.
I would like to see anyone argue that the answer is anything but B.
Now on this next point i may be wrong but here goes:
Does it really take 500 hours of multi time to be qualified to fly a twin cessna? When i had 1000 PIC, 10 hours multi and a seneca PPC i certainly felt qualified to fly a light twin. Granted that the first fifty or so hours on any new aircraft is a learning curve, even with the experience i have now i still think i could have got the old seneca from point a to point b safely even if i had lost a stove in the middle of the approach. Disagreements?
Lastly, if it takes 500 multi to get a job flying a multi how are you supposed to get it? It seems rather circular to me.
How do i get multi time?
Get a job flying multi aircraft.
How do i get a job flying multi aircraft?
Get some multi time.
There are jobs out there for over qualified pilots. Sure that is not all there is out there. I make good money, work with great people, have a good schedule, fly a multi turbine aircraft, love my job, and i did not know a soul in the company, have any multi time, or have to put up a cent.
NOR DO I DISAGREE WITH THE CURRENT PRACTICE OF MOST OPERATORS REQUIRING HIGH TIME. Of course they are going to hire the best people available. But the fact is that there are way more pilots looking for entry into this industry than there are positions, which was the basis of my joking response to all the openings posted.
Oh hell, now you guys are going to waste even more time reading this gargantuan post. Apologies in advance to all for the excessive verbiage.
Respectfully,
ahramin

Sorry Ahramin, I've been playing too much Combat Flight Simulator today so I get a little agressive at times. I guess I should learn to read disclaimers better.
But I was trying to be a bit facetious too.

No worries of course Panama. I was not bothered by your post, just wanted to rebut it. Oh, and yes, the military is looking for pilots, if your eyeballs are V1.
My last post wasn't even really intended against our cephaloplegic friend desksgo, i thought he did a good job of "giving me a piece of his mind". Even though i thought it was a bit harsh in response to a little humour i admit that it was lovely invective.
NDB:
I don't think i like you.
Although i do make jokes about flight safety i saw nothing in your posts to indicate that you were joking. So either you are unsafe or you are a shit disturber. Either way, no haha.
