Habbs1 arrival makes me want to 7700

Post by Changes in Latitudes »

I can't fly an arrival that has me cross a fix at 250kts, blame the goalie, blame the coach then set fire to a police car...

Joking aside, neat concept in naming approaches in YUL. I am looking forward to flying the HBLRD1 into YYZ.

MONTREAL - Montreal's thirst for hockey has reached the skies as five waypoints to help guide planes in and out of the region's airports have been renamed after Canadiens legends.

The names were adapted from those of Hall of Famers Maurice Richard (MORIC), Jean Beliveau (BLIVO), Doug Harvey (ARVIE), Guy Lafleur (LAFLR) and Bob Gainey (GAINY).

The overall standard terminal arrival procedure for air traffic in the area was renamed HABBS ONE, Nav Canada announced Friday.

''Most commercial aircraft, including the ones used by visiting NHL teams, will be flying the HABBS One procedure,'' Guy St-Arneault, manager of the control centre, said in a statement.

The names were suggested by air traffic controllers at the area control centre in Montreal. The area, which includes Quebec and parts of eastern Ontario, previously used generic names.

Most cities put local flavour in their waypoint names, with the only rules being that they be five letters long and easy to pronounce.

A waypoint is a spot defined by longitude and latitude that is used as a marker to guide pilots to the correct routes to follow in the area.

The new names were approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Is the missed approach waypoint named LUSER ?

Actually all joking aside they should rename all the YYZ STARS the LEAFS 1, 2, 3, etc. It sure fits, you go slowly, can't make the connections between points, and you arrive at your destination late, mad and disappointed

It's been a few years since I've done an approach into New York but I believe the waypoints in order on a star were: HORNY & BURST. Couldn't help but bring out my childish giggle coming in for the first time...
