Antonov 225 in YYC March 11th
The Calgary Airport Authority tweeted that the 225 will be arriving on Sunday, March 11th at 1230. Scheduled to depart at 1815 that evening.
I believe this will be the first visit of the 225 to YYC.

I love that thing. Have not seen it since it was at an airshow in Namao. I thought it came here to grab Safety Boss' fire fighting equipment back when Saddam lit up a bunch of his wells but it might have only been the little 124.
I'm going to have to drag the kids to the airport I think.

Arrival time updated to 1215, as per the YYC twitter feed.
Beefitarian: I remember the Safety Boss flights, it was two 124's if memory serves.

Acording to Airliners.net it was put in storage in 1994. I can't remember for sure but the Safety Boss thing might have been while that was going on.

I think it was recently down for a while. I'm pretty excited it's back in action.

It was a C5 Galaxy from USAF that took the Safety Boss stuff to Kuwait after Saddam blew all the wells. Wish I could get a look at that 225. Oh man that would be a Mriya come true.

Just heard the flight may have diverted to CYMX due to gear problems.

I watched that monster do a flight demo at the Abbotsford airshow. Almost pranged when the pilot got too aggresive in a turn right over the US/Canadian border.
An interesting point, if the airplane crashed right in that small no-mans land between the border, which country would be responsible for doing the autopsy on the survivors?

So where do you all figure it will go next? Wikipedia says it has the range to go direct YYC but I suppose they might stop somewhere along the way to stretch their legs. YWG maybe?

Ahhhh, photoshop. lol.
If they wanna stretch their legs they can just take a stroll to the tail and back, that'll be about a km.

Re: Antonov 225 in YYC March 11th
Hopefully they would bring the "survivors" (oldtimer wrote:An interesting point, if the airplane crashed right in that small no-mans land between the border, which country would be responsible for doing the autopsy on the survivors?

I bet the flight will continue down to KMSP. They probably needed to do something down there besides stretching their legs, as it wouldn't have made sense otherwise as a stop-over between YYR and YYC.

I am guessing they went to MSP vs YWG due to fuel prices. It would make a big difference on that bird.
PS If it really had as many engines as the photoshop picture it would have been British (using glorified APU's and still underpowered)

It's picking up some natural gas plant equipment from my company, Enerflex. I'm one of the engineers on the project and couldn't even get a tarmac pass. Our execs took all the passesBeefitarian wrote:It's going to KMSP Saint Paul International right now. They must be almost ready for a nap soon.
Anyone know what they are going to be doing in YYC?

It's final destination is Nigeria.
