Is there such a thing?

I was wondering if there was a way that I could listen to an MP3 player through my headset and still hear traffic calls. It has to be portable so I don't need an STC. It also has to be affordable.

Thanks

I used to have a Lightspeed headset that does exactly that and also lets me plug in a cell phone as well.

Check out http://www.anrheadsets.com

I was very happy with my 30-3g it got stolen. I now have the more budget oriented QFRXC2 which has MP3 and ANR in one package. There is also the QFRXCc which includes the MP3 and phone interface as well as ANR for $379 US or a little over $500 Cdn.

Otherwise, you can pick up a cell set, which lets you do the same thing, but these seem to me to be outrageously priced for what you get, not to mention more clunky and awkward than what I'm willing to put up with.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Check out a product called The Muse by PS Engineering. It'll let you listen to your Mp3, amplify it, and cut it out when the radio comes on.

$200.oo ?

Ouch... a little costly for an audio switch and a headphone jack.

....time to start another penny jar for a new headset. The mp3 feature is great....that way I can't hear my students scream :smt079

A few years ago some guy gave me some crude sketchings to make something like this. As I remember, it plugged into the "phone" jack of the aircraft Intercom, and your headset plugs into it. It wouldn't cut out if someone is calling, but if you keep volume down, you have some nice background music. Why not go to the Radio Shack and see what they can suggest-- a few bucks, a few components and some soder might be all that's required.

Sporty's has a cell phone thing-a-ma-gig for the head set. It goes for around $40USD and works great with my Ipod.

Thanks for the tips. I cann't afford a new headset (I am a pilot) and 200 bills is just too much. I have already been to Radio Shack and the guy there was an Electronics tech and he was unable to help. This thing at sportys - how well does it work and will it work with a regular MP3?

I took an old push-to-talk and cut off the mic plug end (smaller end) and spliced onto a 1/8 '' adapter for a set of head phones. Will work great if you have an intercom in your plane. Cheap as I could make it, 0$.
