Yesterday on Global they said the name is going to be the same as the parent... so maybe something like WJ Regional etc.
One odd thing they said was that pilots will fly BOTH types vs. other support staff ie flight attendants will only fly the national or regional?

Westjet should become something like "Maple Leaf Airlines". Then you wouldn't need a new brand for the company on the props, you could just brand the "service". You could call it something like Maple Leaf Connector. Or Maple Leaf Regional. Or Maple Leaf EXTRA. Which avoids branding the towns it serves as secondary.
Or....we can wait until Westjet absorbs Air Canada and they can just use that name.
Or...we can use a name that is synonymous with "Canada" and is used interchangeably by our government: Harper Airlines. The props can be "Senate Service".
i like it. they could call the mainline Canadi>n and the dash service could be called Canadi>n Regional...and being proudly canadian, they could paint some kind of canadian icon like, i dunno, a big goose on the fuselage..

In this business, its all about brand recongnition, and brand reputation. WJ has done an excellent job of building an outstand brand and coporate culture, and must continue to nuture this brand in order to be successful. For these reasons, the new low cost carrier must have a similar name to WestJet.

SOLVENT.
In english, the business definition is that the company can pay its debts. And in french, it combines the french words for ground (SOL) and wind (VENT)...ground wind...
Do we have a winner?

The chemical definition for it works well too:Rotten Apple #1 wrote:SOLVENT
"substance that dissolves another to form a solution"
Re: Name for the WestJet Q 400 Operation
Westjet would never brand themselves with a name derived from French. They would consider "Redneck" before "Solvent". It would be much more representative of their roots.
Or even Crude Airlines. No wait. That's Air Canada.

The name "Westjet" is actually two words, "West" "Jet", which are derived from Norse mythology and French, respectively.CID wrote:Westjet would never brand themselves with a name derived from French. Seriously, you don't think the name was born from modern english, having to do with they started out West and operate jets?

The user I was replying to had commented that Westjet would not use a word that was derived from the French language as an airline name. My response was simply to point out that they already had, when they named their mainline carrier "Westjet".mbav8r wrote:Seriously, you don't think the name was born from modern english, having to do with they started out West and operate jets?
