Up - Down time Iphone app?

Post by Road Trip »

I often fly 20 legs in a day sometimes more and at the end of a busy day I find that I may have missed an up time or down time.

I always have my Iphone with me and I’m wondering if the is a small simple app to automatically record air times based on GPS speed and Altitude.

Specifically: Up times, Landing times and a calculated air time in 10ths of an hour for each flight of the day as well as a total airtime for the full day.

Basically what I’m after is a quick end of the day double check on my paperwork.

I’ve seen one app that does this but it’s part of a much bigger and fancier navigation app which I don’t really need.

Logten will allow you to do this and keep a logbook. When you land, hit = under the time and it will record the current time... same for take off, or record it at your convenience.

A bit off the question, but

I was the absolute worst when it comes to this , and was terrible when I was flying single pilot, multiple legs all day..I got a Garmin 296.( first a 295) Not only is it a great back up, but the little rascal will give you your up and down times for each flight..If you turn the light down it will go 7 plus hours on a battery charge, forever if you can plug it in to the plane A second battery is about $100. I still carry it with me. I think you can pick one up nowadays very cheaply. Was worth it to me. End of the day you can just pull all your legs for the day off.

I have a Suunto X10 watch, it's designed for back country hiking, but I've also used it for keeping a record of my flying. It'll track your altitude, speed, and record a GPS track of your route which you can then download to a computer and review...you can even import the track to Google Earth and view your path on. I know it's not an iphone app but it's the best I can come up with for you. There is an altitude limitation on it though, but I'm not entirely sure what it is.

I haven't used this feature at all, It might be useful to you.

I found an app called "I FLYTE Time & Checklist v1.2" Looks to be exactly what I'm after. $7 so I downloaded it and will give it a try.

I'd really like to find something similar to this as well. Let me know how you like that app... I also found one called Air Navigation Standard, which seems similar but I'm not sure which is better since there are no reviews for either. Bonus for these apps is they can also use the iPhone's GPS as well apparently...

Try MSpPilotUtil from the apple app store.

Old thread, but since it's back up..

For the android users like myself, there's a great app called Tasker. It does much more than this too, you can set any parameters on your phone, and have it run settings. For example, you can set it up so that if your speed becomes greater than 10 km/h, it will automatically record the time, start GPS tracking, pull up a list of nearby airports, and start the music player. You can change this to anything you could want, it is fully customizable.

I use it for reserve calls specifically. I will never wake up from just one phone call overnight, so I hit a button on my phone and it will turn on the "Reserve mode". If I receive a missed call from anyone in my phonebook, an alarm will go off and will stay on until I acknowledge the missed call and shut off the alarm. I made it difficult so it would be as annoying as possible, and there is no snooze for it. Works like a charm.

You could use the app for a bunch of other things too, If you have bluetooth in your car, you can turn bluetooth on automatically when you go faster than 10km/h. When you stop, it can automatically record your GPS location so you can find your car in the parking lot for the forgetful :D

Costs about $7, but it's a great app that has already proved its worth to me. If you can't find something to do what you want, this one can probably help you out. Just remember that GPS is a battery drainer, if you are going to keep it on, you should plug the phone in.

Nonsense. You turn it on before pre-flight, and put it in your pocket for the day. At the end of the day you take it out and do your paperwork. Good idea to check from time to time between flights to make sure your batteries haven't gone flat, but thats about it.

1+ for the logten.

Anyone know if there is a Tasker app for the iPhone? Sounds pretty handy.

"flight timer lite". It is free and has a nice large button which advances to the next stage everytime you hit it.

You mean, you don't just make them up? TC told us to just take .2 off of flight time. And a big +1 to the Garmin products.... nothing is more automatic and transparent than those.
