Have you flown behind a Jabiru? Tips please.
I have to pick up an aircraft tomorrow and I've never flown a rotax powered plane. Anything I need to know about a Rotax 912 that's different from typical continental or lycoming?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Cross your fingers and check the coolant level.

Cruise at (approx) 5000 rpm and there is no Carb Heat.

They have a funky method of checking the oil and coolant levels, I can't remember it off hand, but I remember turning the prop until you heard that sucking sound, as part of it. That was on the Technam installation. You really also had to keep an eye on your temps and it seemed pretty finicky depending on the outside air temperature. I do specifically remember that it was also reccomended for a long warm up and cool down times after star up and before shut down, I remember seven to ten minutes at either end. While some guys swear by the thing I personally didn't like it, just didn't sound right and did a lot of rattling and shaking, though that was in part the P92E's flimsy construction.

The aircraft is a Pioneer 200, but DOH, just found out the engine is a Jabiru 2200. Anyone know anything about these?
Thanks for the Rotax info, hope it never comes in handy but you never know.

Jabiru is a good engine. Ran smooth, didn't
seem to use much oil.

As it turns out the plane's annual expired the day before
. Going to do the annual this weekend and hopefully move it next week. Fired it up though and it started right away and ran fine. Looks like a good little bird.

Jabiru starts and runs just like a car engine.

Nice. I'm linking this thread as an example in the walk around thread.ahramin wrote:As it turns out the plane's annual expired the day before.
Check the paper work kids. Like the good Colomel says, you can fly a broken airplane and never get in trouble if the paperwork is good but if you fly a perfectly good airplane without the papers you could get in big trouble.
Please everyone, don't knowingly fly a broken airplane just because of that.
Transport might not care about problems with planes unless they are "physically recorded" but as the pilot we should.

Small note: the annual on a private aircraft expires on thethe plane's annual expired the day before ...
1st day of the 13th month following - NOT 365 days.

Doh. Didn't remember that but in any case that would only have given us 2 extra days and this thing needed a bit more prep work than I had time for. I'll get it going next week.
In any case it looks like it's going to be a nice little time builder for someone. I don't know what a C-150 rents for in the lower mainland of BC but if anyone is working on their commercial and thinks that 5 gph at $1.70 a litre is cheaper than what they are currently paying they should pm me.
