The person that is no longer working at Canadian North was not the pilot that was drinking and was never given a Breathalyzer and he offered his blood for testing and the RCMP said no need you are not the pilot in question. So this whole thing about the boozing pilot was fired is very untrue. So instead of pointing fingers and saying the pilot was fired for drinking. You should know that the pilot that never did anything wrong was forced out. I very rarely come on avcanada but when its a friend of mine I want to make sure people are not bashing a great person and one hell of a good driver.

Have you been drinking?

The Captain was fired for breaking not only the 12 hour company policy but also the CARS. Was your friend not the Captain of that flight?

Clearly the whole story is not being given, and those familiar with the truth are not volunteering all the information. Whatever the facts are, we shouldn't be so quick to make any assumptions based on news reports or rumours. I have no inside information with respect to these events, but anything I've come across similar in nature to what is being stated here has never been close to what has actually transpired, just something to keep in mind.

tomajet,

yeah, I'm sorry but I am calling B.S on that!!!

I find commendable how you stand up and defend a friend, which is truly rare these days, but its not even close to being believable!

I have seen them get rid of people unfairly and without what I would call acceptable cause but to publicly make an internal announcement and a press announcement to the reasons stated opens the company up to a huge liable suit on multiple levels! Any company lawyer would have taken actions to stop Tracy before issuing an press statement. If a company wants to rid itself of a pilot its pretty easy, even without cause and NO company would even consider doing it publicly in that fashion without evidence.

Again tomajet, your defence of your friend is admirable but remember what type of society we live in, one that is sadly dominated by lawyers.

Your friend might be a good guy, he may even be a good driver but there is something clearly wrong here and common-sense should say that to you.

A pretty solid rumour out there is that the pilot admitted to what he did which is why, I believe, the action from the company was swift.

Crap like this happens more then most people think. There was a Porter Q400 Captain who ended up in the drunk tank in YYT and couldn't make the flight in the morning. He got his ass fired. Although this guy thought his shit didn't stink and loved the booze. He had it coming, he use to call his first officers "Mutts". Explain that one if you can find a job in Canada! This guy is now somewhere in Africa. Funny how this industry works.

TheStig....I agree with your thoughts about misfacts.

There are some troubling questions with regard to what has been released, and it would be good to learn some more about this. I am puzzled by the crew's role , and would like to know how the company is dealing with them.

Maybe one of the braver media outlets will follow up before everyone quietly forgets about it...I think there just might be a lesson here for flight crews.

How do you see a pilot spending the night in the drunk tank and getting fired relevent to a pilot being taken off the flight deck flying a aircraft possibly drunk getting fired. Considering you signed up yesterday to post this i would think its a shot at Porter.

trey kule,

Yeah, I wouldn't hold your breath on that one, the company isn't even talking privately with the staff or pilot group little alone the anyone else!

In one respect its not in their best interest to do so, it is in their interest to have this quickly and quietly fade away, now that they've dealt with it.

The guy is in my humble opinion a decent human who screwed up huge! He made a huge mistake and error and I am MOST CERTAIN he would love to have the chance to repeat the option so that he could chose the right action! He's taken responsibility for his actions and is now and will be for a very long time paying the price for his decision.

username80 is correct it does happen a lot more than people are willing to acknowledge up in YFB and not just by the 5T group, but by many up there. Its also not just in YFB but in many other centres. Your also right that there is much that can be learned from this person as well about the problems that exist up there; but in my opinion its dealt with like many other serious issues in our society by keeping it a big elephant in the corner of the room or making a joke of it. We should all be ashamed if thats how we deal with that kind of issue.

Thanks Aeros

I thought we might hear a bit more in the news about it...Seems a bit like the lad who landed on the street in Winnipeg.
Just have to wait for the facts

Ah....What I meant was that it just quietly disappeared for a long time before the facts emerged. Nothing to do with alcohol.

I think there might be some real value in CRM training from this incident, but I would like to have much more information first, which is why, in my subtle way, I keep bumping the thread.. Quite frankly I am not concerned about the role the pilot played, but how the rest of the crew handled it.
