604 Contract Pilots
Curious, this job wants contract pilots, but as most companies don't allow their crews to moonlight, who are you going to get to do this? If there was someone out there who could qualify, how much of an allowance would you charge for your recurrent, the closest sim being in Dallas? About 20,000 for the recurrent PLUS accommodation (and airfare) for a week, every year. Would anyone even contemplate doing this cheaper than a full-time crew?
I heard 1100 US per day plus full expenses was the lowest industry standard - can you afford to even contemplate this given your overhead?
Are my assumptions correct?

Re: 604 Contract Pilots
That is pretty steep for a Rec. Your figures are significantly off. Being a Canadian... id say a Rec on the 604 would be about 12-14K all in. That being said... With the new program of the FAA mandating that all canadian pilots operating into the US to have 6 month PPC's.... That will essentially put all contractors outta biz.
Chally 604 guys range from 12-2000 a day depending on seat and expectations. Ask ACASS what they charge for one... Youll find they are pretty much the most expensive out there. But they are the easiest way to find a pilot fast.

Re: 604 Contract Pilots
yeah, hard to believe they could get what they need given what you have stated. Even if your main employer did let you moonlight, how could you make the duty rest requirements work?
W.r.t to SIM, there is one at FSI in Tucson and they charge substantially less than the school in Dallas. The exact amount, I am unsure of, however.

Re: 604 Contract Pilots
Forgot about Tucson. Thanks for the reminder.
ACASS, whatever you think of them, pays for the PPC of all their pilots plus they have to make a profit on them so their rates are probably in line.
Even if you 'only' paid 14000 for a recurrent, that's significant overhead, plus the requirement to pay your taxes... It seems that only somebody recently unemployed might be able to do this sort of contract? How many qualified 604 pilots in Canada are available to fly a Canadian registered 604 and how many of them have to stand by to cover flight requirements?
I guess I am surprised that a company like VIH would attempt to operate an asset like a 604 on an ad hoc basis. I know they were looking for crew a few months ago but I guess they found no takers? Maybe they were staggered by the salaries and training overhead for a professional crew?

Re: 604 Contract Pilots
Just a correction here.... Acass does not pay for pilot PPC's. The contractor him(her)self pays. Acass acts as a "broker" to get a preferential rate on a course but the cash comes from the pilot. Always has, always will.
Re: 604 Contract Pilots
Yeah J'Acass are bottom feeders they take advantage of all their contractors FYI stay AWAY from them
