Boeing 777 Endorsement Course
Hello,
A group of about 14 people including me are looking to take a 777-200/300 endorsement course in YUL.
Wondering if anyone here knows of someone (Individual or Training school) that would be able to give us this course and be TC approved ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Zag

Re: Boeing 777 Endorsement Course
What is up lately with all those AME's looking to go on endorsement courses? Why would anyone pay for these out of their own pocket, let your employer send you and pay. This is no better than pilots paying for their own training. Is that really the road we AME's want to go down?
Re: Boeing 777 Endorsement Course
I agree with Wrench. Employers should be paying for this sort of thing. I guess if you're trying to get a leg up on someone for a job and you're willing to shell out the $$ for a type course that's your own prerogative. It is a free country, however it does set a dangerous prescient in the industry. I can't imagine how much a 777 course would cost per person. Probably not cheap. I've taken some biz jet courses which when you total up accommodations, lost wages (if you're not getting paid by an employer) and tuition was up around $20K.
To find a TCCA authorized training facility, go to http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/s ... nt-531.htm.

Re: Boeing 777 Endorsement Course
I am very much in agreement with wrenchturner and robertw. Next thing, we'll see people asking to work for free in order to "get a foot in the door".
If it ever came to that for myself; paying for type courses as a tactic to get a job or to "get ahead"; I would leave the industry.
This sort of behaviour puts everybody looking for employment or advancement in a compromised negotiating position. It exerts a downward pressure on wages, working conditions and opportunities in an trade that already has a well earned reputation as being substandard compared to many others.

Re: Boeing 777 Endorsement Course
I had a feeling I would be getting these kind of replies to my inquiry.
However I would like to say that our employer does not even do maintenance on 777 and will not be ever doing maintenance on that aircraft.
So we are not trying to get ahead in our company or move up skipping other AME's that don't have that type course. However we have future plans to move elsewhere in the near future and to be able to make that move we are required to have that endorsement to even be considered.
Believe me I am against paying for a type course and totally agree with the fact that the company should be sending us to a type course, but while we wait for said company to decide that, years are going by and other opportunities around the world with very good wages are being taken by AME's who have that rating.
The amount of money I would be getting as a salary having that course, It would pay for itself within a period of 6 months max.
So while I sit and wait for some company to give me that rating, I would invest in myself and move ahead in my career to future opportunities and not waste 5 or 10 years of my life working as an example for $3000 per month, when I could be working for $6000 or $7000 per month assuming I have that type course in addition to any type courses I would be holding at that time.
That's my point of view, I look at it as a self investment just like an IT tech would go do these microsoft courses and certificates to be able to land a job or move further in his career.
Thanks for your input guys and thanks for the link.

Re: Boeing 777 Endorsement Course
Just obtaining the endorsement and having it on your C.V. isn't going to make these airlines in the Middle East look at you closer. I am making the assumption that you are talking about Emirates. As well as the endorsement they require that you have exercised signing authority on the aircraft in the previous 12 months. If your company does not have any contracts that enable you to do this how will you overcome this? After a few questions during the interview such as " what are the most common flight deck defects you have encountered?" or "tell us about one of the strangest problems you have seen while on the line" they will figure out you have had no time on the aircraft and are of no real benefit over someone that has not paid for the rating. Save your money,

Agreed, I wouldn't hire someone who has never worked on the machine
Re: Boeing 777 Endorsement Course
Right. I will never let my kids drive my car. They've never driven it before................
Now that sounds stupid doesn't it?????????
I have lost count the number of apprentices fresh out of school I have worked. In fact I'm sure I will work with apprentices until the day I retire.
I was an apprentice once. As were all of you (unless you were an immaculate conception in which case..........). Thankfully there are operators out there that still (have no choice sometimes) hire apprentices and bring them to a level where they be independent (skynet comes to mind but never mind).
If an experienced AME chooses to get an endorsement course on his own (on his/her own or as part of a group) then should not be belittled by individuals that think a company owes them an endorsement course.
But that's just me......

Re: Boeing 777 Endorsement Course
Dash X,
My comments were not meant to belittle the original poster but to point out how this will be received by the Airlines he has applied for. I can tell you from my own personal experience that the questions that I had posted will be asked. I have also included the minimum requirement to apply at Emirates. At the latest roadshow given by Emirates the question of buying the endorsement was presented and it was answered by Engineering rep by " save your money, we are looking for individuals that we can send out to an aircraft and certify it immediately. Not ask someone where the water servicing panel is" His words not mine.
Experience and Qualifications:
Must have at least 5 years experience as a certifying engineer on any of the following Emirates fleet type such as Airbus A330, A340, A380 or Boeing B777.
Must have served approved apprenticeship in aircraft maintenance from a recognized body.
Fluency in English is essential.
To Apply: To express your interest in the above vacancy please apply on-line by clicking below, and complete our application form. We will then consider your application and contact you should we wish to shortlist you for an interview. Should you not receive an invitation for an interview within 5 weeks please assume that on this occasion you have been unsuccessful. We will retain your details for 12 months unless advised otherwise and re-consider you for future opportunities as they arise. Please also note that if you are not shortlisted you can also update your application at anytime and apply for other opportunities. Thank you for your interest in a career with the Emirates Group.
