Naturally mine has to be a biz jet, and as Reba McIntyre's band accident in N831LC Hawker 1A after a miscommunitcation with FSS - killed all 10 on board, CFIT - March 16 1991 is already listed.

So mine, Madri Taxi Aereo Ltda. Learjet 25D PT-LSD (no pun intended) killed a Brazilian rock band; Mamonas Assassinas (not making this up!!) click here. March 2 1996.

AvWeb best description of John Denvers accident, and explains the pilot license issue.

I met John many times, and his Dad Dutch who was Cheif Pilot on John's Lear 35 N31WS which they called Windstar I. His Dad is ex Air Force - I got to spend an afternoon with John, all he talked about was US Air Force jets - and all I talked about was his Lear!!

One irony - is N31WS was written off on February 2nd this year - of all places - Colorado - after it went off the side of the runway during take-off - aircraft basically spun out - but no injuries to the 10 persons on board.

Also the beach adjacent to his accident is now known as John Denver Beach in Pacific Grove California.

Off topic, but I had the pleasure of being John's dive buddy for three days in Grand Cayman. Dive shop hooked us up, because he was looking to keep his diving out of the spot light. Just me, him and the dive master, boat driver, and on board bar tender!

Some people pass and you don't take much note, but John Denver was an exception, just a good guy - kinda like the Crocodile Hunter - loved that show!!

Regarding Jim Groce, click here it was twenty years ago today he died.

Agreed on John Denver, but Jim Croce left us far longer than 20 years ago...double that and you`d be about right (39 yrs 3 days Sept 20 1973).

Duh!!!,

The kool thing, it caused me to look up info on Jim Groce's crash, and I updated the ASN database.

Seems the ATPL with 14000 hours, 2000+ on type, took off in fog from KIER, failed to climb and collided with a Pecan tree - the only tree for hundreds of yards.

Seems Otis Reading and Jim Groce both died in Beach 18 accidents!

(Back to my F1 race!!)

Exactly the same thing happened to Stevie Ray Vaughan - a
night takeoff in fog with an immediate collision with obstacles
after takeoff.

50/50 odds that someone here on AvCan will do it again, this year.

Sad but what a Wondeful Idea! Just to remember them.

SRV will always be missed like any of the others but he's for me on the top of the list.
