I don't know S*#t from Shinola when it comes to telling Piper Twins apart but Bob posted the picture so I'm going with his identification! The prop in the background appears to have been "trimmed". It may be just the angle the picture was taken at but, given the subject of the picture, it may not be! Is there a "rest of the story" Bob? Surely the statute of limitations has passed by now!beaverbob wrote:Seneca II

"Blackey", No problem, I just landed on the Clearwater strip (Williston Lake) and the front gear collapsed due to a small bracket breaking off allowing the nose gear to release. The main gear remained locked. It was 1979 and come to think of it, it was a Seneca I. Good eye "Aeroyt". Both tips on both props took off in various directions, never to be seen again.aeroyt wrote:No Seneca I

Come to think about it and after verifying with my vnc, it is Clearwater Creek. I don't remember seeing an airstrip off the west side of the inlet nor do I remember bothering to look for the fact that I didn't even know there was one there.beaverbob wrote:. Is the bay the Clearwater?
Flying back to PG via the pine pass and Chetwynd looked horrible but west down the valley looked okay. So I tried to meander myself through the storm. Finally I entered IMC and decided enough is enough and did a 180 out of there. With limited fuel remaining I had a few options; either back to yxj, slalom my was through the Rockies, or fly the lake via peace arm.
I'm glad I flew the lake because I couldn't have asked for a better flight. It was sunny, calm (with the exception of a few moderate up and down draughts) and the scenery was beautiful. Not only that but I just made it to Mackenzie without feeding into my reserve.
Here are a couple more pictures of that flight

I like the landscape frame, and colors in the Caravan shot. It looks almost remote. Nice snap!!
CLguy; that last pic of the 415 is one of the best I've seen. Kudo's to your friend on the shot!! Publish it!

Just found this yesterday going through a pile of archived shots that I never processed. Thought I'd pass it along.

The least favourite part of my job. Hand bombing 2400 lbs of moose and caribou chopped into pieces small enough to go in pack boxes on horses.

JAC,
What are the cylinders on the inside of the Otter floats? Strange place for rod-holders!

It was the easy way to give the floats enough float for the turbine conversion instead of totally rebuilding the floats or extending them.
Re: Pix From a Swamper - Remembering Craig Chenell
Actually I believe the mods on the sides of the floats are part of an upgross kit, I've seen a few turbootters without the upgross float kit.

That's correct GUMPS. Brings it up to 8367 if my memory serves me right. I think with the extensions you can go up to 9000 like having the wipline's on.GUMPS wrote:Actually I believe the mods on the sides of the floats are part of an upgross kit, I've seen a few turbootters without the upgross float kit.

Thanks guys. Any effect on take-off performance? They don't look particularly streamlined.
Re: Pix From a Swamper - Remembering Craig Chenell
Thanks! It was very early morning. A thunderstorm was just passing by as the sun was coming up. Can't beat float flying...you see something different every day! The countdown is on for next season!ozone, I really like your first pic, the orangy light one! Wow. Makes me want to be there, at that exact moment.

Nice pix RB. My good friend Marcel Desormeaux used to fly TUR for Rodair in 1967.

Here are some from my time in the north in memory of one of the greats. Memories fade, but legends are forever. You were the later..

Hah and here are two you took of my goofy, giddy smiling face after probably one of the most entertaining rides..

I can still hear you chiding me about the lack of snow on the 'wet coast' with all my 'hippy friends'

I'm just registered on this Forum.
I am a French PBY researcher.
On Sat Jan 19, 2008 you shared some pictures of CF-CRR at Sasaginnigak Lake on July 1974 (page 14 on this thread).
I have been sent them recently by a friend who linked them with her service with Avalon Aviation.
The aircraft has still her colours (bare metal... but yellow floats and tail band) with Midwest Airlines and the reg is still CF- as on the photo below.

CF-CRR Winnipeg 04Jun71 Midwest Airlines ©Tim Martin, SidneyBC
I have it registered with Ilford Riverton from 1973 to 1977. Then to Avalon.
All the photos I have seen of her under Avalon's ownership are as C-FCRR.
Hence my question is : Who was the operator then?
Could you give me some details about her misfortune at Sasaginnigak Lake on July 1974.
I have scrolled many pages of the thread without finding any comment added.
Thanks
J-Chris.
