Most likely if there was any damage. Pretty sure there are some Boeing engineers and a pilot on board to monitor for first few days of flying for this new model as kinks do come out when you're flying the line with a brand new model.BingBong wrote:warranty???

Every new plane has it's glitches. Our NG's have snags galore for the first few months.

Japanese airlines ground Boeing 787s after emergency landing
So whats the cause of this economic and technological fiasco? Misplaced priorities in the USA and the resulting degradation of the value of the American product? A lack of capability on their part? Or as some like to believe a consequence of outsourcing critical assemblies to third party companies in countries that were until recently third world?

That's what you get for being a early adopter...I always like to wait for the second generation. I like to think I'm a early majority guy, but I'm probably late.

The deHaviland Comet, DC-10, and Lockheed Electra never made it to a second run. Design flaws and bad publicity early on killed them off.

Though aircraft like 747 had early bugs that did get sorted out. Only time will tell.
Re: Well that didnt take long... 787 Glich
I can't think of any new aircraft that did not have problems.

and I suspect the 707 and DC-8 had more to do with Electra not being more popular.

Re: Well that didnt take long... 787 Glich
I once was waiting for my flight (DHC-8) to board. Several passengers were looking out the window at the plane and saying "We're not going on that, are we?"Brantford Beech Boy wrote:The public doesn't like those spinny things on the engine......

I hear that commentary along with quiet solitude/puzzled looks as they look out and see a B1900 as their mode........... I witness one lady in YHZ who refused to board a B1900 when she realized it was that small - she hates those little planes, told the gate people to get her on something bigger, she didn't care the routing and the extra cost. Ya hear and see it all.Sidebar wrote:I once was waiting for my flight (DHC-8) to board. When Canadian took delivery of its first B767-300, immediately after the media fanfare at YVR, the plane took off supposedly for Abbottsford and training. In truth, it went back to the factory to address a "many" snags.
Re: Well that didnt take long... 787 Glich
All airlines should immediately cancel all 787s purchases and hold an open and transparent competition for the next airliner. This is unproven technology and expensive compared to buying off he shelf already proven designs. Atleast it has 2 engines though!
In reality any new design whether military or civilian is going to have teething problems. Not surprisingly the military ones get the most negative attacks. Different paint scheme same problems. In a few years when the kinks are ironed out it will become a great success.

Or military spending is exclusive tax payer money where airliners are private enterprise (with tax breaks). If I don't like the way an airline works, I don't fly on that airline. We are stuck with our government until possibly the next election or you leave the country.frosti wrote:That is because everyone is an expert after playing a few video games.teacher wrote: Not surprisingly the military ones get the most negative attacks.

The Comet resumed service with BOAC in 1958 after the reason for the accidents was discovered and the aircraft modified. These were the first to fly the Atlantic route. The 707 and DC-8 came along shortly after and carried more passengers and were more efficent to operate which led to BOAC replaced their comets with 707's. The Comet made it to the 4C version and was in service with a number of smaller airlines, leaving regular service with Dan-Air in 1981. The last 2 aircraft built were used to develop the Nimrod prototype.azimuthaviation wrote:The deHaviland Comet, DC-10, and Lockheed Electra never made it to a second run. The RCAF flew flew a few comets until 1963.

Boeing is designed and built by engineers.
AirBus is designed by corporate suits that have never turned a wrench and put together by the factory workers at LEGO. #Junk
Everyone relax. It's an avant-garde technology airplane.

What is it about the Internet that reduces people's IQ by 50 points.. AirBus is designed by corporate suits that have never turned a wrench and put together by the factory workers at LEGO. #Junk
What a ridiculous statement....why bother ?

Amen. Both Boeng and Airbus are excellent aircraft. There's just different design philosophies behind them - nothing wrong with that. The bugs will eventually get worked out of the 787 - like any new clean-sheet design.

The first post was over a year ago (I had a hunch this aircraft would be problematic early on), then these incidents that caused Japanese airlines to ground the fleet, now apparentlty the FAA has grounded all 787's.dashx wrote:Story has been removed. Or was it a glitch??????Oops!

We never made that big of a fuss when their Toyotas went crazy with faulty gas pedals. Bunch of drama queens they are.
