Re: Your dream plane to fly?
In all seriousness then. The P-38 and F4U have always turned my crank.

Re: Your dream plane to fly?

Hey Moose here is one of my buddy Lew when he was a young lad! He was bringing sword parts to Norway when the RCAF lived there from time to time. This picture fell out of Lew's log book at work the other day and I asked him if I could scan it. I think Lew and his Dak were based in Germany at the time.
I too would love to fly the DC3.............Cheers....Jim
Re: Your dream plane to fly?
Great thread, I love daydreaming about this stuff. Some good picks so far, especially all the multi-engine flying boats...
For me, in the pure fantasy category, I'd say in no particular order: A-10 Warthog, Lancaster, Spit, ME109, ME262 in tailwheel configuration, C-17
In the "not likely, but within reason" category: DHC-2 Beaver, and/or Found (Expedition) Bigfoot... both on floats/amphibs

The only true Bf-109 "Emil" is in Canada!
Not so long ago I use to play combat flight sims. My favourite & most futile battle was a one on one with Erich Hartmann in a late model Yak or Bf-109. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_Hartmann
I just read this artical on the Canadian Bf-109, awesome report.

Re: Your dream plane to fly?
Interesting thread,
I would list the B-1 or Bone...
The deHavilland Mosquito
The CF-5.... It has all the right lines.
Cheers.

Re: Your dream plane to fly?
Sorry for doing this, it's not a plane, I am serious though. What a great show & it would be such a cool job to captain this or be a bridge officer.
I will not bring it up again. I feel I'm out of line here.

This was a trip from ZBB to Midland , Tx as a right-seater, low level VFR all the way. We later flew her down to Chino, 500' down the coast and back with only one intercept by the USCG. The a/c was owned by Jerry J.

Re: Your dream plane to fly?
Test flew this old girl after a full rebuild in 1979 at Regina..interestingly the engine quit turning base..no ASI so I used the position of the Handley-Paige slats as a reference for best glide to a landing on the grass runway. With no brakes and no prop blast over the rudder there was no steering but it stayed upright.

Great photo. More please!
The aircraft are from top to bottom.

Douglas Dakota Mk. 3F from No. 109 Communications Flight was located at No. 2 (Fighter) Wing, Grostenquin, France
Canadair Sabre Mk. 6 s/n 23381, coded BH*381
The two Sabres were from No. 430 'Silver Falcon' (F) Squadron based at No. 2 (F) Wing at Grostenquin, France. No. 2 (F) Wing formed part of the Royal Canadian Air Force's No. 1 Air Division Europe.

Re: Your dream plane to fly?
G'day Barney
Just a bit of history on CF-ADI for those out there that might be interested.
The aircraft is a D.H.60M Moth, c/n 781. The original certificate of registration (No. 594) was issued on the 10th of May, 1929. The following people or organizations owned the aircraft.
J. R. Paget
Northwest Aero Marine
J. Herriot
Northwest Aero Marine
H. Karels
Prairie Airways
A. Herron
Moose Jaw Flying Club
G. Burroughs
That's as far as I can go on the history Barney until it became part of the aircraft collection at the Western Development Museum in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. I notice the museum identifies CF-ADI as a D.H.60G 'Gypsy Moth'.
Cheers...Chris

Re: Your dream plane to fly?
Thanks Chris. ADI is a 60M..M means "metal" fuselage...built in Canada. It was also owned by "Screamin' Steve" Albulet who operated it on floats. We purchased the basket case remains from Burt Skelton(sp) who flew it for many years around southern Sask. His only log entries were on a CPR calender which TC allowed as proof of time when we got the Flight Test permit.
The museum manager tried to sneak the finished aircraft out of the hangar one night, after the re-build and before we could test fly it but his crew were detained for B&E..for a scare tactic. After the testing was completed the aircraft was flown to Moose Jaw. The manager then cancelled both the CofA and CofR.

Re: Your dream plane to fly?
I'd have to go for the airplane that bears the family name. Even if it had to be in its lashed up taildragger configuration.

Re: Your dream plane to fly?
I flew 305 hrs last year, which is more than I would hope for. GIven the average mission is 1.1 hrs, that's roughly once a day on average. I may not sound like a whole lot, however remember this is all stick and rudders and there is much more than flying to a mission.LTD wrote:

Re: Your dream plane to fly?
305! Is that exceptionally high or around average at 425 Sqn?

Really? None of these yet? Did I miss something and we had to go with aircraft actually flying today?

It's kind of ironic that the technology that made large flying boats like those possible was the same technology that made them obsolete....

G'day Duster
Beautiful shot of a Hornet F. 1 from No. 65 'East India' (F) Squadron.
It was actually powered by a pair of 2,030 horsepower Rolls-Royce Merlin 130/131's.
Cheers...Chris
