Library and Archives Canada plane crash information?

Post by Billie T. »

Hello Everyone,

If any of you have had any experience with the Library and Archives Canada and their information on plane crashes, I would appreciate your help.

As you can see, I have no experience, so if you want to laugh, please do, but do it quietly, if possible.

For example, I am researching the crash of a Cessna 170 that went down on Kagianagami Lake in northern Ontario On Feb. 22, 1959. When I searched in the Library and Archives, the description found in the archives reads as follows:

• Title: Cessna 170 - Kagianagami Lake, Ontario - 22 February
• File part of Civil aircraft accident investigation files - 5002 block (textual record) (R184-309-1-E)
• Date(s) 1959
• Place of creation: No place, unknown, or undetermined
• Extent: Inventory no.: 12-70
• Conditions of access:
File no. (creator) 5002-586
Textual Records: 32: Restricted by law
Volume 32: restricted by law
1575
Former archival reference no. RG 12-A-1
Finding aid no. 12-169
Source: Government
Other system control no. FIND012/87584
MIKAN no. 1273009

1. Now, I imagine that I will have to follow up with the Library and Archives in some fashion, but for now, does any of the above ring any bells for anyone?
2. Does anyone know of any other site that has information on plane crashes in northern Ontario going back to 1959.? I don' think the Canadian Department of Transport goes back that far.

Thank you,
Bill Thompson

Take care and thank you in advance for any and all help. It is much appreciated.
