Ignorant Pilots
So I’m driving to work today, passing some traffic in the fast lane on the highway. About 100 meters in front of me, a car from the slow lane cuts in front of me. That car begins to slow as it comes along the side of a car in the slow lane. Both cars continue to drive about 5 to 10 km/hr below the limit. Even on a Saturday cars begin to slow and line up behind me, waiting to get by. After what feels like a minute or two the car in front of me speeds up a little, the cars finally pass each other and both go into the slow lane. I accelerate back to my original speed *cough 30 over the limit and pass both cars while still in my original lane, the fast lane. Before I can move over to the slow lane/ driving lane the car behind me cuts into the slow lane and passes around me going what had to be 50 to 60 over the limit… While I was distracted by this aggressive driving, the next car behind me pulled along side me and laid into his horn for what seemed like a good 10 seconds until his exit came up.
The whole situation just frustrating and put me in a bad mood for the next hour until I was flying. A person driving slow in the fast lane is one thing but then to be blamed for the whole mess was insult to injury.
Shortly after the situation while I was reliving it, I came up with the idea to this thread: “What’s the most ignorant thing you’ve witness while flying?”
P.S. I’m aware I shouldn’t speed and was technically passed in the passing lane…

Re: Ignorant Pilots
Your question is almost a non-sequitur after the story preceding it. Why don't YOU tell US the most ignorant thing you've seen while flying?
For me I guess I've not seen anything much other than the odd instance of someone thoughtlessly blowing gravel all over someone else's plane when they could have turned the other way, you know, that kind of thing.

The most ignorant, stupid things I've witnessed while flying are things that I've done myself. I'll pass on telling the stories.chinglish wrote:“What’s the most ignorant thing you’ve witness while flying?”

Yep..... I think that if we actually catalogue stuff we've personally observed, that every pilot would answer the same.Rockie wrote:The most ignorant, stupid things I've witnessed while flying are things that I've done myself. I strongly suggest this method of coping for everyone that encounters energy vampires of any kind.

Your driving story made me laugh. It's just traffic-Realize that it is dynamic. There's every personality out there on the road, and everyone's exhibiting various states of emotion, so just go with the flow.
Re: Ignorant Pilots
The best way to deal with this thread, is by copying Captain Jack Sparrow:
"There's what a man can do, and what a man can't do."
Unless you are a cop with spike strips you can't control traffic, don't try. Just accept your own limitations and the rest will follow; with a bottle of rum.
Why is the rum gone?

Re: Ignorant Pilots
Alright, very true we’ve all made mistakes. I’ve made more than I can remember but I learned from everyone of those mistakes. What frustrates me is seeing the same mistake over and over again with no progression. That’s probably the most ignorant thing that I’ve seen both flying.Rockie wrote:The most ignorant, stupid things I've witnessed while flying are things that I've done myself. The whole point of this thread was a way to share my driving story. I needed to vent and who better to vent to than my Avcanada peeps?
Re: Ignorant Pilots
More to the point...
What's the most considerate thing you've seen another pilot do? I'm tossing down the gauntlet. Go for it.
One of the nicest things I've had another pilot do for me, was the Wasaya crew who picked up my backpack for me in ZPB! I left it in the MTO building and asked a departing crew at YXL if they'd mind grabbing it for me. They did. Very kind of them. I've seem several of their crews taxi the Hawkers around up north to avoid blowing hot air on anybody, even when it meant taking the "long" way around. Very considerate. A few PC12 and Caravan drivers should pay attention here.

Re: Ignorant Pilots
I think for the most part pilots are generally much less ignorant than the general public. Although I've read quite a bit about ignorant pilots in the accident reports and on avcanada, I have to say I've never actually met one in real life. Generally pilots are intelligent and considerate, and go out of their way to be friendly and help you out. Whereas the average car driver in Calgary...

What a surprise, its the exact same definition for a pilot

Last weekend stopped two guys climbing around on a parked float plane on private property at the east end of CYND. Found out as i chased them off the private property and the plane that they were pilots "so not to worry".
Re: Ignorant Pilots
Ive got one for ya:
I was a Technician on the CF-18's in Cold Lake for a while.
We used to play a trick on the newbies.
When towing around the aircraft in the winter people would close the canopy to keep warm. Most of the new guys didnt realise that there is a breaker for raising and lowering the cockpit. So, when they closed the canopy we would pull the breaker, which is right by the ladder stowage area so it didnt look like you were doing anything out of the norm. At the end of the tow job the newb riding brakes in the cockpit would try to get out by pressing the switch to open the canopy. Nothing would happen.... You can see the dumbfounded look on their face and its hilarious. Then a bit of terror sets in when they realise there is no way out! Then you push the breaker back in and let the poor lad out and point and laugh for a bit
Ahhh... Cold Lake, the work was fun but living there wasn't fun at all.

Re: Ignorant Pilots
If anyone has the nerve to go ten under in the fast lane it should be ok to run them off the road. There's just no excuse for that.
Re: Ignorant Pilots
Your story sounds like a typical weekend morning on Hwy 401.
When you let little incidents like that put you in a bad mood for the next hour it's not good at all. You gotta take life easier, man.The whole situation just frustrating and put me in a bad mood for the next hour

Re: Ignorant Pilots
Happened to me on the 400 south bound below Barrie in Rush hour. Picked a bad load of diesel on a very cold winter day and the fuel gelled slowing the tdi up instantly with a big bummer on my ass ...couldn't move right because of traffic. Boy was he pissed off!co-joe wrote:If anyone has the nerve to go ten under in the fast lane it should be ok to run them off the road. There's just no excuse for that.
