ECG after initial Cat1

Post by CellPh2 »

I have read the regs, for some reason "preceding" gets me mixed up.

(b) within the two years preceding the examination between ages 30 years and 40 years; and
(c) within the 12 months preceding the examination after age 40.

Does this mean that I have to do an ECG the next time I go for a medical and "happen" to be 30, or does it have to be done before my 30th b-day. Sorry.

Let me see if I can help you out a bit here...Pull out your license and look at the medical x-date...Your Cat 1 is good until that date...unless you have an interim health issue that requires you to deal with it.

General Aviation Online Services has the expiry date in your file, or just do the math from the last medical.

My question was about the ECG at 30. The regs using the word preced for some reason messes me up. Does it have to be done at your first medical when you are 30? Thx

You will need the ECG at the first medical you do once you turn 30. Like me, I got my Cat 3 medical when I was 38 - that medical is still valid for 5 years despite the fact I am now 43, but this summer I'll need to do an ECG and will only get a 2 year medical.

Someone here might write a long post that will be difficult to understand and possibly wrong, then several other people will write more things about how that stuff is wrong etc. etc. or you could phone your doctor's office.

Renewed my Cat1 this morning. Yes, after 30 you're looking at an ECG every 2 years. After 40 annually.

To answer your question, no you don't have to get it done before 30. When I renewed my medical for the first time after turning 30, the ECG was done then. That was almost 2 years ago, and I'm getting another ECG soon. I always do my renewals while the last Cat1 is still valid. There may be something there if you let it lapse before renewing with the ECG, I don't know.

I think they're trying to say you can stretch the medical period but not the ECG. It has to be within 12 months. Less than a year old.

Like most of these rules they seem intentionally difficult to interpret.
